These forces drove the deadly #GrandCanyon #FlashFlood The #Arizona #monsoon is only one part of a bigger #weather story. This weekend’s #FlashFlooding, which has killed at least one person in the Grand Canyon, wasn’t an isolated weather event. The torrential rain was part of Arizona’s monsoon season, which runs from June 15 through Sept 30. But the monsoon alone doesn’t tell the whole story. #ClimateChange #ExtremeWeather

A record-breaking #ElNiño & a #marine #heatwave in the #Pacific Ocean have combined to load the atmosphere with moisture, helping fuel the deadly #flooding. On the backdrop of #ClimateChange, these factors have driven atmospheric moisture levels 5 to 15% higher than average. That has loaded the dice for downpours this summer, such as those that hit the #GrandCanyon Saturday. #ClimateChange #ExtremeWeather #FlashFlood #monsoon #weather

UPDATE: Scientists now say a massive chunk of glacier — roughly 2,000 feet — broke off high above Nepal's Rasuwa district and crashed over 1,000 meters into the valley below, triggering the deadly flash flood. The ice-rock avalanche dammed the Lhende Khola River before a wall of water and debris burst downstream. A nearby M4.4 earthquake may have played a role, but that link is unconfirmed. Death toll: at least 160 FOLLOW. FOR. NEWS. #AureFreePress #Nepal #FlashFlood #BreakingNews #ClimateCrisis

Good reporting again by APN https://apnews.com/article/climate-change-nepal-flash-floods-7262dac22e31258955efa5c28c8fe917 Draws the climate connection to other recent events in the same region, and to the Himalaya as a whole where #glacier melt has doubled since 2000. Many hydro power plants are located in the mountains, in areas now especially vulnerable to rockslides and glacial lake outbursts. Risk of dam collapse increases, threatening communities downriver, and electricity generation counting on hydro output is no longer a viable grid strategy. All thanks to Exxon's lies and our corrupt politicians and media. #Tibet #Nepal #Flashflood #Mudslide #ClimateChange
