Despite promises that a new west coast pipeline would be funded by the private sector, Mark Carney & Danielle Smith want to spend tens of billions of taxpayer dollars on it, without letting Canadians have a say in the decision.
Instead of spending that money on the actual challenges Canadians are facing -- housing, hospital wait times, grocery prices and clean drinking water on Indigenous reserves, to name a few -- our federal government is bailing out the oil industry again, even as Canada is dealing with floods, heat waves, wildfires and extreme weather.
Mark Carney says Canada cannot afford to meet its climate targets. But what we really cannot afford is to spend tens of billions of taxpayer funds on a new pipeline project that will make the climate crisis even worse.
