what unifies #LimpiaDeSangre #Blanqueamiento #OneDropRule is how oligarchies in Spain, South America and USA used cockamamy #genetics to justify theft of property and money by deportations and, subsequently, the economic indentureship of the deported. this is where #ManifestDestiny kicks in, as the other side of the blanqueamiento coin. the whitening of the Américas hinged on the forced redistribution of europeans on our lands. guess who had the most colonial lands in Europe: Spain 🧵…

Chemotherapy Can Leave a DNA Fingerprint in Childhood Tumours Within Months

An international study of more than 600 childhood tumours identified mutation patterns linked to specific cancer treatments, sometimes within 91 days. The findings may support earlier monitoring of resistant disease, but they do not show that chemotherapy causes every relapse or provide a clinical test yet. Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive

I was talking with a doctor last week about my early fascination with #genetics (due to a documentary I saw decades ago about the search for the genetic basis of Huntington's). I said that if I had been scientifically minded, I would probably have pursued a career in genetics. The doctor said it could be argued that, by becoming a #genealogist, in a sense I did exactly that. Hadn't thought of it that way. I just ended up studying how genes are passed down rather than how they go wrong. #genealogy #geneadons #dna

🧬 The embryo doesn't start female. It starts undecided. The bipotential gonad sits on a razor's edge for two weeks before a single gene on the Y chromosome tips the balance. And female development? It's not a passive default — it's an active genetic program that must continuously repress the male pathway throughout life. https://hermez.prose.sh/bipotential-gonad-sex-determination #biology #genetics #embryology

7.4 Mil. Plant and Fungi Samples Have Been Digitized to ‘Democratize Knowledge’ and Save Species

After a marathon effort to digitize each of the 7.4 million plant and fungi samples in its herbarium, the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew has said the result will help “democratize knowledge” while leveraging AI’s incredible computation power to plan conservation strategies, discover new chemicals, and more. The new archive is just one part in an […] The post 7.4 Mil. Plant and Fungi Samples Have Been Digitized to ‘Democratize Knowledge’ and Save Species appeared first on Good News Network.

J. Craig Venter, who won the race to sequence the human genome, dies at 79. "Venter, who served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam, said the experience taught him how fragile life could be and made him curious about how the trillions of cells in the human body conspire to create and maintain life." @AssociatedPress@flipboard.com reports: https://flip.it/XbQ7Qt #Science #Genetics #DNA #Medicine
