@GrahamDowns@mastodon.africa Ones I've been getting quite a lot of lately, as the ones that say something like , "I tried to post a review on Amazon but couldn't. Is your book on Good Reads?" First could I sent the GoodReads link, and within 20 minutes a "review" had appeared, compiled by an AI bot from the blurb, and full of fulsome praise. Completely worthless as a review, and the motive unclear. More details here: https://methodius.blogspot.com/2025/09/a-literary-mystery.html #writing #writers #authors

Indie Authors, If you'd like to know more about Itchio Bundles, this post is a good place to start. Having hosted 6 bundles myself and participated in many more, I took some time to reflect on what makes for a good bundle, and a successful one. And FYI, the majority of my sales and indie author income is from Itch Bundle sales. The collective marketing and shared income of bundles is great for #SpoonieAuthors. #authors #indieauthors #bookmarketing #itchiohttps://elisecarlson.com/2026/09/06/itchio-bundles-many-authors-make-less-work/

Itchio Book Bundles: Many Authors Make Less Work - Elise Carlson

For many indie authors, the biggest stumbling block is marketing the book, so people know it exists. Paid advertising can easily waste money. The platform that works for one author doesn’t work for another. Bookfunnel does involve a group temporarily promoting a landing page for multiple author’s books, but other author’s books may sell and […]

Opinion | I’m Begging You: Never Write With A.I. | Katharine O'Moore-Klopf, ELS | 14 comments

The headline on an opinion piece in 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑁𝑒𝑤 𝑌𝑜𝑟𝑘 𝑇𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑠: 𝐈’𝐦 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮: 𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐀.𝐈. An excerpt from the piece: “… The problem with writing with A.I. is that it’s mentally enfeebling — an escalator toward a result when you really need to make a daily habit of taking the stairs. As it becomes ubiquitous, it undermines not only our individual ability to write but also a society’s collective ability to reason, a culture’s inner capacity to create and everyone’s reason to care. Dicen que no son una editorial pero que tienen un sello editorial. Dicen que trabajan de forma altruista y sin fines de lucro, pero para pertenecer a SU FAMILIA hay que pagar un monto muy bajo que va a ser muy beneficioso para ambas partes (?). Ah! y dicen que la IA generativa no roba y patatas 🤡 ... Article on #SpokenWeb - the project I am a #ResearchAssistant for- has a good overview of how vast this partnership is, and its scope and stakes. I think it's pretty neat. #DH #DigitalHumanities #literature #LiteraryAudio #recordings #authors #RightsManagement @academicchatter@a.gup.pe #OralHistory #poetry #readings #storytelling #academia #scholarship #UniversityOfAlberta https://www.ualberta.ca/folio/2023/10/lit-sounds-u-of-a-experts-help-rescue-audio-cultural-history.html

Updates from my website, along with the occasional personal essay or short story! I’m the worst at being a brand, so this won’t be a topical newsletter. Anything that comes to mind.

One more followup. Something many of you know already but in case some of you don't: #DuaLipa founded possibly the most potent #podcast for #books currently in the #literature #literary world. Partly because of her reach as a #popIcon but also because, as many #authors she has interviewed say, she delivers thoughtful deep dives. Dua Lipa is really admirable #Service95 #BookClub https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoRoGYJAH7pMJVsSHxaDem7UT8wVrIjuw https://www.service95.com/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service95

Anyone ever included a prologue to a novel? I'm doing it for the first time. I never thought I'd consider it, but there's a piece of critical information about a character that needs a setup, and there's no place in the book that feels right. The old saying, "Past is prologue." totally resonates. I guess I'll see when it's published. No dates yet. #writing #writer #writers #writersCoffeeClub #author #authors #writingCommunity #writingTips #writingPrompt #prologue #novel #novels #bookstodon #book #books #bookTok #booksky
