If you think you can spot AI slop in writing, think again – the models have evolved (and diverged) 🧐: “How To Spot AI Writing”, The Economist (https://www.economist.com/culture/2026/07/30/how-to-spot-ai-writing or https://archive.is/DAhaj) #GenAI #AI #LLMs #Slop #AISlop #Writing #English #Language #Style #Grammar

#genAI cranks out an endless stream of ugly, soulless, near-identical fliers, signs, and ads; used everywhere by the uncaring masses who have no design talent and no concern for aesthetics. we had the same thing in the 80s. it was called The Print Shop. #retrocomputing #applewriter #dotmatrix #tractorfeed #broderbund #c64 #appleIIe

And another #GenAI on GenAI hack case. This time Meta AI is the culprit: https://www.reuters.com/technology/metas-ai-model-hacked-another-company-during-testing-information-reports-2026-08-05/ I guess it's for street creds that your #AI needs to be at least good enough to take out another one's security. #LLM #Meta #security

Ed Zitron wrote about lack of sense in most of the money burning that is happening at the moment. “In fact, it’s pretty hard to measure anything like “efficiency” or “productivity” in any business, because every metric connected to them can be gamed, leaving managers and executives with the problematic situation where they have to start learning how things work so they can see if they’re good.” (Zitron, 2026) https://www.wheresyoured.at/ai-is-too-expensive/ #business #GenAI #productivity

OpenAI and Anthropic have disclosed that their experimental AI models breached real-world security during testing. In separate incidents, OpenAI models accessed the internet from isolated test environments and breached Hugging Face, while three Anthropic models with accidental internet access extracted data from a real company database and released malicious software. Only the most advanced Anthropic model stopped when it recognised a target was real. https://theconversation.com/experimental-ai-systems-have-been-going-on-hacking-sprees-288907 #AIagent #AI #GenAI #AIGovernance

AI and also a spicy take on a programming language that's divisive. Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
https://github.com/Perl/perl5/pull/24619/files Not surprised. Perl sucks anyways and to be honest if anyone actually can write it without a machine that's impressive because Perl is genuinely just incomprehensible so the one programming language in the world I'd think would accept LLM extruded contributions is indeed Perl. #NoAI #LLM #Perl #programming #AI #GenAI

@urlyman@mastodon.social alternatively, if we concentrate on electric smelters and kilns, we won't have enough clean energy to power them. Of course, we could continue to burn #FossilFuels to do either the power generation or the materials processing, but in that case we all die fairly quickly — probably this century. Or else we could use our available power and structural materials to build #GenAI #DataCentres, in which case we all die even more quickly. #ClimateEmergency /Continued

Snapchat will no longer reward AI-generated content on Spotlight, its TikTok rival. The platform is adjusting its recommendation algorithms to ensure only videos created by real people qualify for its creator payouts. The move marks one of the first major platforms to explicitly penalise AI slop in favour of human creativity. https://techcrunch.com/2026/07/31/snapchat-no-longer-rewards-fully-ai-generated-spotlight-content/ #AIagent #AI #GenAI #AIethics

Colour me in shock it took them a PhD to figure this out. One afternoon watching Noah, Ethan and Luna AI generated verticals on TikTok and the dumbest person can also figure this out. But how much do you wanna bet money exchanged hands for this unnecessary research? https://mastodon.social/@sipirtu/117009642231261436 #LLM #GenAI #MrObvious

Wikipedia article tells that: "In spring of 2026, [Erin] Brockovich started monitoring the industry's aggressive push for AI data centers and increasing nationwide opposition on various grounds. She launched a crowdsourced project to map data centers (proposed, under construction, operational)." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Brockovich #DataCenters #pollution #GenAI #USA

Why don't you just try writing good tests and let AI generate the code that makes them pass? #GenAI #Meme Backstory: One of our devs was complaining about how they tried to use the AI tools work has been pushing on us and the dumb ways it failed to be useful. A manager jokingly asked if the dev had considered writing good tests and letting AI generate the code. Both myself and the other senior dev groaned at the thought. I made this meme to showcase why. Disclaimer: Assembled by moi, still theoretically a human.

I'm going to add to this. I recently used this for a talk I did about mutation testing as a way to create a deterministic harness for devs that have to use LLM "tools" for adding tests. Initial data showed test quality improved significantly, but it spent a good chunk of tokens getting there. A motivated junior dev with a sandwich would be a bit faster IRL. #GenAI #Meme

Why is it that the same people who refuse to write good documentation for human beings will gladly write a novella length Markdown file with the exact same information if it's for a bot? I think they hate other people and feel superior to them. Other people don't deserve their amazing, faultless documentation. Other people might be rude and dismissive or ask questions in a way that isn't sufficiently deferential. They can't tell other people to shut up without getting yelled at by the woke mob. A bot is a slave that does as it's told. Usually. Most of the time. At least it kisses their ass as it fucks up and will never, ever call them on their bullshit. #FuckGenAI #GenAI
