Back in April I wrote about the gap between what "Hide My Email" implies and what it actually promises. Now we have a court case. Apparently Apple knew about a Hide My Email flaw for over a year, said it was fixed when it wasn't, and kept selling the feature the whole time. https://blog.ppb1701.com/the-word-hide-is-now-a-legal-question #apple #privacy #hidemyemail #classaction #bigtech #userhostile #icloud #blog

The class action system of “accountability” in the U.S. Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
🔗 The class action system in the U.S. is deeply broken and flawed and I don’t mean in the usual “I don’t know shit about the actual facts behind the Hot Coffee lawsuit and have mistaken that for a class action lawsuit” way. The most any of us can expect to get for having had our privacy violated by Apple is $20. That’s pretty close to the average price of two regular combos at a fast food restaurant right now. A little more than the average cost of a month of ad free streaming on one of the big streamers. No matter how often your privacy was violated or the severity of the specific conversations violated. The total cost to Apple is a pretty inconsequential slap on the wrist. If you don’t like it, your option is to find a lawyer and pay out of pocket for a lawsuit that you will, at best, break even on. If you’re not an Apple customer but your privacy was violated by someone else’s Apple devices, you are Shit Outta Luck. This isn’t an Apple problem. If you live in the U.S., you are regularly harmed by large companies and you have little to no meaningful remedy. How many free “credit protection” subscriptions have you gotten to mollify the harms caused by the criminal negligence of large companies? How many others have harmed you but aren’t even being held that minimally accountable? Note to capitalism stans: I’m not fucking around with it today. I will block you on the slightest provocation (and report if your behavior warrants). #lawsuit #apple #privacy #ClassAction #capitalism

It's not suspicious at all that #Gmail is marking as spam the notifications people were sent about a class action settlement for which #Google is the defendant and liable to pay out proceeds. One would have thought the plaintiffs' lawyers would have included as a condition of the settlement Google's obligation to ensure that the email notifications did not get marked as spam. #PSA If you're an #Android user and you didn't get a notice a few weeks ago, check your Gmail spam folder. #classAction
