This is a recent talk that captures the main goal of why we are developing Commonshub. The world needs and wants a healthy alternative to toxic centralized social media and it exists but not enough people know about it. That will change if more organizations and or individual creators setup up their own communities and invite people to join. Exactly what Commonshub is designed for... https://watch.2mr.social/w/k3ngQ8Xr3ANRXe6D8YGP4Y https://thecommonshub.com #mastodon #fediverse #activitypub #opensocialweb

I know that in some quarters of both the Bluesky and Fediverse side of the #OpenSocialWeb there is a justifiably allergic reaction to AI. I get it and share it. But I'm becoming more convinced than ever at this: if we in the open social web space don't build our own healthy, safe and fair versions of #AgenticWeb interactions here, it will be defined and done for and to us. The big platforms are already building agentic features: social enabled agents that read your feed, draft your… 🧵 1/3

True: I tink #OpenSocialWeb apps could have a "river" metaphor in their UX like Current does for RSS, or like in Manton's Inkwell app, old posts could just fade off. This fits well with #Calmtech ideas of app design. "Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity. In a world of infinite scroll and endless notification, the act of truly noticing something, of giving it the gift of your undivided presence, has become almost countercultural. The river metaphor isn't about… 🧵 1/3

Making the "ruthless" business case for the #OpenSocialWeb, here is Helen Halvack from the Verge: Helen: “I'll give you the ruthless business answer of why I'm interested in open social web projects like Surf from the Flipboard team. So platforms like MetaX, they are openly hostile to news content in their algorithms. They have moved away from that. They are no longer great discovery sources for us. Links in general even. Forget news, just links. They're not like good places to… 🧵 1/4

More from Nilay on the Verge and the #OpenSocialWeb: “You can get some traffic and that's great, and you can't live or die in traffic, [as] the traffic can go away. The Yahoo algorithm cannot send you traffic to your links on the Yahoo homepage anymore, which is a real experience that we've had. Google can go away. That's just traffic. It just comes and goes and that's great. The [real] goal is to turn the traffic into audience and have people come to you directly and care about… 🧵 1/3

Very gratified to see this built on #OpenSocialWeb protocols. Can't imagine why any new social or parasocial network today would be built on anything else. 🔗 https://techcrunch.com/2026/05/04/as-x-shuts-down-communities-acorn-debuts-an-alternative-that-puts-creators-in-control/

Is the Bluesky kind of federation an example for the future of the Fediverse? Read here what I think about this: https://blog.gelbphoenix.de/the-glass-floor-of-digital-sovereignty/ #Fediverse #Bluesky #Blog #ActivityPub #OpenSocialWeb #DigitalSovereignty #ATProto

FediForum Number 7 Is Happening And It Makes Me Happy The 7th FediForum is happening right now (yesterday, today, and tomorrow). There are two a year and I love going to them. You can follow along using the hashtag #FediForum. Most of the talks are a bit above my pay-grade, but I always learn something or get to try a new open source/open web technology. I also get to see many of my buddies on the open social web (AT Proto/Bluesky and ActivityPub) over video from across the web and engage with them all in real time. The discussions are top notch and there is even a sense of a hallway chat area in the online software Johannes and Anca (the organizers) use. They also use collaborative note taking, so even though the video/recordings are non-existent, there are great notes collaboratively made and later posted on the FediForum.org site after the event. If you get a chance to make a FediForum, you really should attend. The tickets are affordable and the community is so nice! #activitypub #atProtocol #Community #fediforum #fediverse #openSocialWeb #openSource

Journalists, stop with the “format wars” headlines for Bluesky vs. Mastodon! 🤦‍♀️ This isn’t zero-sum; when one wins, both benefit. It’s also the wrong question entirely. Twitter was already broken before it became ‘X,’ remember? #OpenSocialWeb https://www.techtimes.com/articles/315761/20260409/bluesky-vs-mastodon-which-decentralized-social-media-platform-feels-most-like-twitter.htm
