Do you find it annoying when socks don't even last a single decade before getting holes in them? I used to sew them back together, but I recently realized that I don't need to. Socks tend to get thinner as they age and develop holes in different places. By wearing two socks on a single foot, the holes in each one are covered by the other and the overall thickness is correct. My partner has listened to me boast about this discovery one too many times, so I thought I should share it with Mastodon instead. #mending #sewing #clothing #socks

Darning or mending socks kept me sane during June's heat wave because it was a nice creative and repetitive thing to do. It also helped to have extra wearable socks when I had to postpone doing laundry because it would have made my place even more humid and hot. Ah heck, the nightdress, 'twas borked! The bit under the arm tore quite a bit, so I slapped on a patch of random linen scrap with the edges turned under, whipstitched it on, and applied the bare minimum of quick embroidery to stop the torn bit underneath from wiggling so much. #Mending #VisibleMending #HandSewing
