I saw a few seals popping their heads out of the water, then later a couple hauling themselves onto a beach. When I got closer I realised the ‘rocks’ on the beach were in fact a herd of grey seals (or whatever the collective noun is). 🦭

Hen Pen the pheasant has been a constant companion while I’ve been gardening today. I even picked her up to move her out of the greenhouse when she’d forgotten how she got inside. She was completely unbothered.

Firstly please excuse the mess, I’m in the middle of a diy project in the greenhouse. But our new ‘pet’ pheasant has decided that in amongst the debris is a good place for a dust bath.

So as not to disturb her, my husband had to pass me my drill through the window.

Haggis the hog not too impressed with the MOD’s night flying exercises either. Still, it didn’t put him off filling up on kibble. He was back and forth to the canteen all night. He’s got four months of hibernation to make up for.

Willow bird feeders also make good dispensers of sheep’s wool for nesting material. The great tits have been teasing it out.

We appear to have a pair of pheasants living in or around the garden. I’m very happy for them if it keeps them away from the guns of the local estate shoot. He patrols the field a lot whereas the hen pootles about in the garden. If you go slowly she isn’t startled and either scuttles for cover or hunkers down and blends into the background with her very effective camouflage (much more sensible than the flashy male). Not here, obvs (though she hadn’t seen me).

I don’t know how I didn’t see this last winter but there’s a lovely witch hazel in the garden. I bought one last spring thinking the garden needed one. It can always use another though. The flowers remind me of fireworks bursting. #BloomScrolling
