#ToddBlanche’s confirmation hearing to become the 88th attorney general of the United States began with #Senate #Judiciary Committee #ChuckGrassley, #Republican of Iowa, welcoming him & giving opening remarks, followed by the tanking #Democrat on the committee, #DickDurbin of Illinois. Durbin’s remarks were worth hearing, the rest not so much. Grassley’s were prebuttal & defensive, Blanche’s were all lies. Sadly Durbin is retiring. He’s very good, but he is advanced in his years. #law #Trump

Dugan resigned the Milwaukee County circuit judgeship she had held for 9 years in January amid #threats of impeachment from #Republican state lawmakers who labeled her an activist judge. Judge Orders US to Return #Colombian Woman Deported to #Congo The unusual ruling came after the judge found that the #Trump admin had most likely violated the #law by deporting the 55-year-old woman to the African country despite its refusal to take her. All of this has happened on the shadow docket. So the Roberts Court has ok’d election cancellation without merits briefing, oral argument, etc. This would be extraordinary and pernicious enough. But because Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented and pointed out how exceptional and dangerous the Court’s order is, Alito, joined by Gorsuch and Thomas, wrote an opinion basically calling her uppity. 4/
