Has the US Postal Service gone insane?! I live in the area of Dallas, Texas. Two weeks ago, a package was shipped to me from Orem, Utah. Below is the package tracking log so far (reformatted for legibility). #USPS sent the package by way of Puerto Rico and Florida. It arrived in Dallas yesterday, but they sent it back to Florida! Tuesday, July 28 5:15 PM Carrier received the package. Package left the shipper facility9:15 PM Package arrived at a carrier facility. Orem, UT US10:30 PM Package arrived at a carrier facility. Updated #USPS policy says #postmarks might not indicate the first day the Postal Service received the mail, but rather the day it was handled in one of its processing centers. Those centers are increasingly likely to be further away from certain communities because of recent consolidations within the Postal Service, which could further delay postmarks. #law #ElectionLaw #MailBallots #elections #midterms #VoterSuppression

I started this thing a couple years ago that I give the grandspawn money at the end of the school year based on their grades. They love it, of course. I tried to mail the grades money yesterday and because I had their little money holder envelopes all together in one padded envelope, the post office was going to charge over $8 to send it, an envelope that weighed less than two ounces. The lady said it was because it was padded. She also told me that now there's a new charge for any envelope that contains a gift card! Insane. She said it's because they don't bend in the machinery. Did we get new machinery all of a sudden? I doubt it. I didn't get into it long enough with her to find out what that extra charge is. It just came up because she was squeezing the padded envelope and asking me what was in it. Not gift cards, but that's when she told me about the new gift card charge. So anyway I took it back home and ended up sending each kid a regular envelope with one stamp. The fucking post office, completely enshittified! Cripes! Everything just gets worse and worse, nothing gets better or easier. #USPS

In contrast, my wife just needed to send a letter to the Department of State about her passport renewal, and she asked at the local post office how to send the letter with tracking, and they told her to use a priority mail flat rate envelope for $12.90 when she could have just used certified mail for $6.08. Yet another anecdote suggesting that Louis DeJoy succeded in his goal of destroying #USPS. #politics #USPol

Y’all, did you know that Trump’s handpicked mail czar has declared that unless states give the Post Office lists of all voters, they just won’t deliver mail ballots. Just…won’t deliver them. This is of course highly unconstitutional, especially since a federal court ruled today that the executive order underlying the request is …wait for it…unconstitutional.
