Peak summer on the beach - Lake Nokomis - Minneapolis Biking back from lunch at Lake Nokomis I stopped to take a photo of peak summer in Minneapolis. A guy soaking up the sun, lifeguards watching over kids in the lake and a couple lounging in the shade. Officially, the city has 22 lakes within the city limits which feels like a lot more than what I think of when I think about the lakes here. https://photos.clintmcmahon.com/2026-08-06 #minneapolis #summer #lakenokomis #beach #photography

I want to bike on Lake, But a full lane I must take. Car fumes make my lungs ache. Build a bike lane, for everyone's sake! #BikeTooter #Minneapolis

@PapyrusBrigade@cosocial.ca It's always a good laugh to bike through downtown on a Friday evening to watch people desperately searching for parking near their venues. US Bank Stadium has an average attendance of 66,929 people. Assuming an optimistic four passengers per car, you'll need about five additional stadiums worth of surface area just for parking (to say nothing of driving lanes!). #Minneapolis

"Mill District" in the news— We got a an email from the Guthrie Theater downtown, warning us that city-owned parking ramp prices would jump to $50 this weekend, owing to a spectacle at nearby Chicago Avenue Taxpayer Stadium. "Please note that the WWE event at U.S. Bank Stadium may lead to increased traffic and parking demand in the Mill District." Fifty bucks parking? For worldly wrestling entertainment? In a football stadium? There's a workaround for early-arriving theatergoers who enjoy idling in traffic but we'll just take the bus. $2 round-trip fare. N.B. It's a Noël Coward play, if you like that kinda thing. https://www.guthrietheater.org/whats-on/private-lives/ #Minneapolis #MillCity #ValueForMoney #nonsense

Stopped the presses— One cool thing about this former printing plant was that it had its own rail spur that entered the building to deliver newsprint. Those days are long gone. "The media company ceased printing operations at the end of 2025 and outsourced duties to a facility in Iowa, citing declining print subscriptions and cost savings. The site is the last piece of real estate owned by the company, which used to control several blocks in and around downtown Minneapolis." Ankle monitor-wearing Nazi Jake Lang is holding a racist "N-word march" for "free speech" at City Hall in Minneapolis at noon on August 22nd. Counter protestors will be ridiculing him with a "Nipple March" for "freedom of tops" at the same time and place. #Minneapolis #50501movement

Hey, if anyone here in #Minneapolis is looking for a #car that has not-great-but-not-terrible gas mileage, manual transmission, and doesn't spy on you, check out this Craiglist listing: https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/d/minneapolis-2008-toyota-matrix-6500-obo/7949455219.html I know, I talked shit about this car on here before. But it's not a bad car, it runs and drives well and it's better than a lot of the alternatives. Low mileage overall, just put in an almost-new JDL transmission, new clutch, not a ton of rust. I wouldn't be selling it if I wasn't broke again and trying to switch to e-bikes. Boosts appreciated, forward to your friends 😊

Council Member Chowdhury has asked that we find ways to inject whimsy into street maintenance projects. We put our thinking caps on and realized that if there's no budget to bring whimsy to Public Works, then we'll just have to bring Public Works to the whimsy. That's why tonight's marching band spectators were able to witness the surprise interruption of: Three Public Works staff with leaf blowers.Three pickup trucks. Two street sweepers.Three more guys with leaf blowers. One garbage pusher. One garbage scooper truck. One dump truck. We'll be starting new street construction projects in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to see which event we interrupt next! #Minneapolis #Nicollet

Now that the wildfire smoke is gone, we want your feedback on the Vision Zero pilot program. While the smoke did substantially reduce visibility during the pilot, we are disappointed that it did not, in fact, reach zero. Following up on the pilot program, we have included a number of pro-car, pro-pollution policies in the next draft of our Vision Zero plan. We are confident that these proposals will make progress towards zero visibility on Minneapolis streets. You can read and comment on the new Vision Zero plan on our website. #Minneapolis

With the #wildfire smoke here in #Minneapolis really bringing me into a depressive state, can anyone offer me any hope or encouragement to keep my head up? It feels really bleak and I wish there was something I can do, or at least something I can look forward to for a chance of things getting better.
