So, #Shopify CEO Tobias #Lütke, whose company commands a market capitalization near $154 billion, told his social media followers this week that a tax-tiered voting system—one that would strip #voting #rights from anyone who pays no income tax—would be a “good system.” Under this proposed system, the disenfranchised bloc would encompass all retirees living on Social Security and pension income, students, caregivers, disabled Americans, and millions of low-wage workers who owe no net federal income #tax after deductions and credits. All so billionaires could have many votes. Like lobbying doesn’t exist. Tying the right to vote to wealth or tax contribution has a name: “census suffrage,” or property-qualified voting which entrenched the political power of the already wealthy and locked out workers, women, and minorities from any say in the laws governing them. Some info about Brazilian elections: 1- It is mandatory. All citizens over 18 and under 70 must vote or tell the government why they couldn't after the election. People 16 and 17 or over 70 can choose to vote or not 2- It is always on a Sunday 3- There is no mail voting 4- The system is controlled federally. This is interesting. On its face, it shows that the #California #voting system works. And one reason why elections take so long. But there’s a sinister undertone, with the main reason for rejection being late arrival… by USPS. Which means that we were absolutely correct in recommending that voters return their ballots directly to one of the county ballot boxes rather than trusting the mail. Remember this in November!! I love the Ballot Alert text messages I get from King County Elections. I get one when they mail my ballot so I know when to look for. I get one when they collect my ballot from the drop box so I know they have it. Then, I get one when they verify my signature that tells it’s all good and my ballot will be counted. Also, that one is a good reason to vote early. If they can’t verify your signature you know and have time to fix it. #Seattle #Voting

DOJ just lost its 16th straight case trying to force states to hand over voter data. 63% of those losses came from Republican-appointed judges — including the Trump appointee who just ruled against them in Connecticut.
