Senator #LisaMurkowski (R-AK) became Friday morning the 2nd Republican to say she would oppose his nomination in a floor vote, joining Sen #SusanCollins (R-ME). If #MAGARepublican senators fold and confirm #toddblanche.. It will probably be one of the most serious mistakes of the MAGARepublican Party. Blanche is TOO corrupt and Blanche will try to rig the next election for Trump To confirm Blanche as #AG is like... spitting in the face of 'We the People' it is SOO BAD that is... repulsive.

Everybody understands how this works, right? 1) #ToddBlanche says whatever he needs to say to allow the GOP to save face. 2) The media credulously reports it with no acknowledgment that it's meaningless. 2) The GOP confirms Blanche as AG. 3) Blanche does whatever the fuck he wants, including things that directly contradict what he said before confirmation. 4) The GOP does piss-all about it. The Republican holdouts, Sens John Cornyn (TX) & Thom Tillis of (NC), had vowed that they would not confirm #ToddBlanche for the role unless he provided written assurances that the #DOJ had formally killed a planned $1.8B #SlushFund to pay #Trump allies who claim they were unfairly persecuted by the government. The senators also insisted that Blanche narrow the scope of the sweeping #immunity from #IRS scrutiny granted to Trump, his family & their businesses under the same agreement. #law

The unsigned #IRS document posted by #ToddBlanche said that only #Trump, 2 of his sons & the #TrumpOrganization would be granted #immunity from audits, excluding a broader pool of Trump family members & their associates who appeared to be eligible for protection under the original #DOJ deal. I would like to believe that a few GOP senators have grown enough of a spine to stop Todd Blanche from being confirmed as attorney general. But I'm not Charlie Brown getting ready to kick Lucy's football. We've seen this form of kabuki theater many times before. #Cornyn responded with a post of his own, in which he said #Trump “is mistaken if he believes concerns about the provisions in his tax lawsuit settlement are limited to me & Senator #Tillis.”  A refusal by the #Senate to confirm #ToddBlanche would be a notable political setback for Trump, marking a rare instance when the #GOP-led chamber blocked something he wanted. But even if Cornyn & Tillis’s concerns remain unaddressed, Blanche could remain “acting” AG for the foreseeable future. #law #DOJ

The “settlement” for Paul Vaughn, who was #convicted by a Tennessee jury in 2024 of conspiring to prevent access to an #abortion clinic, shows how the goal of the $1.8 billion fund announced in May can continue, despite a public retreat by #ToddBlanche [& a court order].
