I wanted to explore the topographic relief cartographic style that I did for Santorini, Greece, last year¹ and tried it on the Faroe Islands 🇫🇴. One new thing is that I worked with @mapterhorn@mastodon.social terrain tiles instead of processing the raw NASADEM data. I’m continuing experimenting with this topographic map style and here’s one for the French Caribbean island of Saint-Barthélemy. France’s IGN provides DEM with a horizontal resolution of 1 metre so I wondered how my map workflow would look like for smaller islands. I rarely use Google Maps anymore, but has anyone else been seeing this kind of thing? SEO spam I'm used to, but these just seem like messing around for its own sake. Seems virtually anyone can add fake stuff to the map? But to correct the map, all you can do is submit a form and wait? So we get the fake mapping that people are scared of in #OpenStreetMap but with none of the transparency about who did it, and nobody has any real power to address issues they see. 😒 #gischat

a coworker asked me how to style a basemap vector tile (you know one of the kind of issues they were developed...). I could not figure how to do that with their access to arcgis pro (agol is supposed to works easily, no idea). It was one copy paste, 3 clicks in #QGIS and very transparent. One day govt sector will wake up and rise!!! #gischat
