Feed: All Latest | To Land a Job in AI, Try Reading Kant by Joel Khalili AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. AI labs such as DeepMind and Anthropic are increasingly hiring philosophers to help navigate ethical edge‑cases, value alignment, fairness, misinformation, and the broader moral implications of advanced AI systems; these in‑house philosophers—including figures like Iason Gabriel, Amanda Askell, and Julia Haas—work on projects ranging from drafting model “constitutions” to designing frameworks for testing moral competence in large language models, while academia remains wary that corporate employment may turn philosophy into a marketing tool or limit scholarly independence; nevertheless, practitioners argue that direct access to cutting‑edge models gives them a unique perspective for shaping responsible AI development, sparking an ongoing debate over whether embedding philosophers in the corporate AI sphere ultimately improves safety and ethics. Feed: All Latest | Googlebook Is Google's New AI-Powered Laptop Platform Built on Android by Julian Chokkattu AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Google has unveiled “Googlebook,” a new AI‑focused laptop platform built on Android rather than ChromeOS, aiming at the premium market while keeping Chromebooks for education and business. Announced on The Android Show, the platform—codenamed “Aluminium OS” internally—will launch this fall on devices from Dell, Acer, Asus, HP, and Lenovo and will support both ARM and x86 CPUs. Key features include Android 17’s generative‑AI widget creator, the “Magic Pointer” that offers contextual suggestions when you wiggle the cursor, and “adaptive apps” that allow developers to deliver desktop‑grade Android applications with deeper hardware access. The devices will sport a distinctive glowing LED “glowbar,” premium materials, and tight integration with Android phones, enabling seamless continuation of tasks across devices, though iPhone users will see limited functionality. Google emphasizes that Googlebooks complement rather than replace Chromebooks, which will continue receiving updates for years. “Google AI workers unionize against tech giant's role in US, Israeli war crimes” by The Cradle News Desk @uk_politics @palestine@fedibird.com @Palestine@masto.ai @palestine@lemmy.ml @iran “On 6 May, Google DeepMind workers in the UK asked management to recognize the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and Unite the Union as their workplace representatives, as staff prepare to challenge the use of Google AI technology by the US and Israeli militaries. ‘We don’t want our AI models complicit in violations of international law, but they already are aiding Israel’s genocide of Palestinians,’ one DeepMind employee said.” https://thecradle.co/articles/google-ai-workers-unionize-against-tech-giants-role-in-us-israeli-war-crimes #Press #SocialMedia #UK #Google #AI #DeepMind #PalestinianGenocide #Unionisation #UniteTheUnion #CommunicationsWorkersUnion #CWU

As I scroll through social media, I see political posts and want to comment and express my opinion, which I believe is my right. However, I am like you, and perhaps even more so. I can be quickly punished if I express my opinion, whether I criticize the occupier or the dictatorial government that rules us. Therefore, I reluctantly refrain from commenting on political posts. #Google #DeepMind #Palestine #UK @palestine@lemmy.ml @palestine@fedibird.com

US Top News and Analysis | Meta, Google, OpenAI among Big Tech firms seeing top staff leaving to launch AI startups AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Top AI researchers are increasingly departing major tech firms such as Google, Meta, and OpenAI to launch their own startups, securing massive funding in just a few months. Recent examples include former DeepMind researcher David Silver’s Ineffable Intelligence, which closed a record $1.1 billion seed round, Tim Rocktäschel’s Recursive Superintelligence seeking up to $1 billion, and Yann LeCun’s AMI Labs raising $1 billion after he left Meta. Similar spin‑outs like Periodic Labs, Recursive Intelligence, and Humans& have each raised hundreds of millions, often recruiting talent from their founders’ former employers. Venture capitalists are betting heavily on these nimble ventures, having funneled $18.8 billion into AI startups founded since early 2025—a pace set to surpass the $27.9 billion invested in 2024. Investors cite the founders’ insider knowledge of scalable AI systems and the gaps left by large labs focusing narrowly on immediate commercial gains, opening opportunities in new model architectures, interpretability, vertical AI applications, and reinforcement‑learning approaches that larger labs are deprioritizing.
