Yes, it was predicted. Yes, it is worse than predicted for 2026. And next year is set to get worse still. Somehow, understandably, #ClimateScience consensus always errs on the conservative side. So yes, I fully expected it to be worse than predicted. And you should too. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jul/30/fire-weather-eu-wildfires-data

A climate website shut down by the government is back – rebuilt by the scientists who were fired. Former employees of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have launched Climate.us, an independent nonprofit website designed to restore easy public access to authoritative U.S. climate information. Built by former Climate.gov staff, along with nonprofit partners and volunteer scientists. More than 80 experts have agreed to review its material for scientific accuracy. #ClimateScience

“The European drought is a compound crisis, driven by prolonged precipitation deficits and extreme heat, with impacts already evident despite the summer only just beginning. Wildfire activity has also intensified rapidly in western Europe. The drought is placing severe strain on agriculture” https://www.worldweatherattribution.org/increasingly-hot-europe-faces-more-severe-droughts-and-growing-challenges-for-water-and-land-management/ #Climate #ClimateCrisis #Europe #Heat #Drought #Wildfires #Science #ClimateScience #Weather

Happy birthday to amateur pioneering American scientist, inventor & women’s rights advocate Eunice Newton Foote (1819-1888) who did the earliest experiments to show the insulating effect of certain gases & correctly concluded that increasing carbon dioxide levels would affect atmospheric temperature and climate, which we now call the Greenhouse Effect. This discovery was often attributed to later studies by male scientists. 🧵 #linocut #printmaking #womenInSTEM #HistSci #climateScience

Check out Climate.us, a new website created by former employees of NOAA, who worked on Climate.gov until they were laid off last year as part of the heinous DOGE cutbacks. "The website features Climate.gov's 15-year collection of climate news and stories, expert blogs, visual status reports on key climate indicators, maps and data pathways, climate literacy resources, classroom materials, and restored access to the 5th National Climate Assessment." https://www.climate.us/news-features/feed/climateus-launches-independent-website-trusted-climate-information #ClimateScience 1/n

What if 15% of global warming comes from pollutants that climate policies largely ignore? New research highlights the need to address indirect greenhouse gases to accelerate climate action and reduce harmful air pollution. #ClimateScience https://phys.org/news/2026-06-overlooked-pollutants-responsible-current-global.html?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fedica-Autoposting

Scientists lose critical climate record as ocean observatory will go dark under Trump funding cuts "It's a crippling loss of information," Ed Dever, a professor at Oregon State University who helped lead the initiative's Pacific Northwest operations, told The Associated Press Tuesday. Scientists can get some data from the surface, such as temperature and the distribution of chlorophyll, which drives photosynthesis in plants, but information below cannot be gathered from satellites alone, including low oxygen zones. The initiative launched in 2015 after more than a decade of community planning and construction. It was designed as a 25 to 30-year project, built in part around the oceanographic consensus that detecting meaningful #climate signals requires at least three decades of continuous data. "We've just got to the 10 year record," Dever said, "which will give you some hints, but it won't continue on." https://phys.org/news/2026-06-scientists-critical-climate-ocean-observatory.html #ClimateChange #ClimateScience #Oceanography #Trump

The administration calls it a "little detour." One hundred seventy-four civilians dead. Twenty-five billion dollars. Zero congressional votes. When the past RNC chair calls it war crimes, you're not reading partisan screed—you're reading a smoke alarm. The land is keeping score. It always has. https://twp.ai/4hr1bc #Politics #War #Accountability #QueerHistory #ClimateJustice #Resistance #VotingRights #ClimateScience #SCOTUS #Democracy #TransRights #Trans #Queer #LGBTQIA+

Massive news in carbon sequestration: The Taklamakan Desert's "Green Wall" is now a verified carbon sink. Satellite data shows a 1-2 ppm CO2 drop over the region during wet seasons. 66 billion trees later, a "biological void" is now helping the planet breathe. 🌍🛰️ https://www.livescience.com/planet-earth/plants/china-has-planted-so-many-trees-around-the-taklamakan-desert-that-its-turned-this-biological-void-into-a-carbon-sink #ClimateScience #Afforestation #CarbonSink

„Let's consider climate science, a field dominated by white men (most with background in the natural sciences) who mainly conduct and lead studies focused on the physical aspects of the climate while disregarding numerous other issues. This is why far too few studies deal with the global interactions between social and physical changes in an evolving climate.“—Friederike Otto: Climate Injustice #ClimateScience #SocialSciences #Intersectionality
