@monotux@hachyderm.io it's not just slow, it's unusable at this point. Anyway, the script goes a little further than just a list of packages. It makes sure you have your dependency tree sane.

@monotux@hachyderm.io it's funny you say that, because I gave yet another chance to Ansible yesterday, and I'm never going to use it ever again. Gather facts disabled, explicit python interpreter path, control master for persistent ssh connection, disabled the package cache update: it still takes 22 seconds to execute zero change for syncing one file and checking the presence of a package. A simple equivalent ssh command, 490 ms.

#nixos is too complex for me, so I decided to write a 110 lines Python script to help manage a fixed list of packages on #archlinux

It reports inconsistencies between your requested packages list and what's actually on the system.

The list can contain inline comments and group packages.

Basically, a declarative Archlinux packages helper. Anyone interested?

PS : I have a bug to report in pacman and I'm unable to get an account on the gitlab (they didn't reply to my mail).

@laund@wetdry.world someone pointed this to me, it indeed looks like it could be a workaround. But to be honest, I think I'm going to maintain a personal fork of helix with tabs support so I don't have to add workarounds on top of workarounds.

@jeremie@fosstodon.org no, bufferline doesn't solve that problem. Tab views (typically like vim) have a different set of buffers inside. You'd have different scopes for each tab. Each tab typically has several splits organized to work with that current context. I enabled bufferline a while back, but I don't see its use. The lack of tabs in #helixEditor caused me to open two instances on the same project. Unfortunately, it's written in #rustlang so the multiple rust-analyzer instances almost memory bombed my machine...

As the whole session started freezing, I wrongly blamed Firefox and started unloading tabs, but the fox was (mostly) innocent this time.

Today I’m haunted by the realization that ArchlinuxARM is a... closed-source project (?!). I found anomalies in the packages: these are on the Github repository, but the image generation for the system, and even the website and documentation (aside from a few wiki pages), are nowhere to be found.

Seeing random extra packages installed in the generic image starts making me paranoid...

I hate everything about this.

Debugging why #Firefox is behaving differently between two supposedly identical setups is so wild...

Did you know?

- Firefox does try to read ~/mozilla (yes, without ".", so if you move your config dir here, expect surprises)
- Firefox does try to read random config files it doesn't own, like fcitx5 (it literally activates a file watcher and looks at the theme.conf)
- Firefox tries to open the theme.conf from a flatpak user config file

...and so many more.

@mariusor@metalhead.club hehe well the issue in slack is that you loose the context of who said what, you can't jump back to that bit, the person who said it is not highlighted, etc. If I need a prehistoric but functional chat, I'd use IRC. Imagine paying for this...

Slack is so terrible people prefers to share screenshot of code rather than using the blockquote without syntax color. Crazy to me that this feature is implemented for dozens of exotic languages in its free gamer oriented competitor, but that so called professional service still can't be bothered to implement it.

While I'm at it, not being able to quote someone is triggering me (you can only craft one with ">" like a neanderthal, or create a thread).

I tried to switch to #wayland (i3 to sway), and a few things are still pretty broken:
- the systray icons are not responsive (1 issue and 5 PRs, workaround is to use waybar or something)
- Krita is not supported (a beta has been released with the support last month tho)
- The stylus from my wacom tablet doesn't register the pressure (might be app specific)

I didn't try the window and screen capture yet, so maybe other stuff are not ready.

I think I'll have to pass for now 😔
