Muddy walk therapy! My son has been off school sick for a while so it was good to get out and get some fresh air. The Thames at Abingdon was looking high... definitely welly weather. Always good to walk by water. I love the sound of the river rushing through the weir at Abingdon Lock.

‘the lapsing, unsoilable, whispering sea’… which is the last line of an Oliver St John Gogarty poem in The Oxford Book of Twentieth Century Verse, an anthology that my aunt gave me for my 16th birthday (cover tattered now.) Anyway, it came back to me on the beach in Kent with my son at the weekend.

It's a strange (and wonderful) feeling to have something that's been sitting in notebooks and on my computer, suddenly out there being read. (It's also nerve-racking waiting for early #reviews! Though one of the most brilliant and startling things about being a #writer is when you hear from #readers that they've enjoyed your #book.)

my #autistic son out in #nature. We meant to go for a #halfterm #walk to the excellently-named Parsonage Moor (a place my son thinks may no longer exist because it is not named on Google Maps), but the footpath was closed so we went to Dry Sandford Pit instead (near Cothill Fen, a quirk of #Oxfordshire geology - once a tropical sea)
