I think that people don't have a full appritiation on the fact that many scientists can't publish wherever they want.

There is a specific silence in a car when the numbers on the gas pump keep climbing past where your brain said stop. A woman in a Kroger lot in Marietta this week, engine off, doing the arithmetic that decides whether the tank gets filled or the kid gets shoes.
