Hope you're well today. TL;DR is I'm trying to raise $30. Cashapp: $mrecon54 Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ottercynical I'm a painfully neurodivergent and chronically unemployed pan nb, a father to twins, and trying to get on my feet. Today I'm trying to gather up about $30 for some supplements that help with my major depression disorder and anxiety. I'm on hard times and haven't been able to secure a job in many months, and have gotten by on the charity of family and the kindness of others, but have little for myself. I post here because I appreciate the Mastodon community. I'll forever remember and be thankful if you are willing to lend me your support. I also take gameplay requests (at no cost). Every penny goes directly toward surviving. My handles are below. Pic is my dog, Biscuit. Thank you for hearing me out.

Anyone know of a good explanation of the difference between an #AutisticMeltdown and a panic attack? I think I can explain it myself, but a short explainer I could share with people would be handy. I wish there were more awareness of what autistic meltdowns are, especially how they aren't the same as tantrums, panic attacks, and maybe a few other things they get mistaken for. I think a lot of unnecessary damage gets inflicted on us because people don't understand what meltdowns are or how to deal with them. #ActuallyAutistic #autistic #AskingAutistics

Hello – an #introduction. I’ve long been watching the fedi and now finally join. Commons: strong opinions i may not reflect, linux, love-hate computers, #trans, probably #autistic, cat owner (no pics), socially weird. Less-commons: studying #maths in #Prague (but mess into software too). A little bit into music and languages as well. Easily socially exhausted, thus sorry if i don’t respond to anything. Also have trouble w/ social expectations and often will just not interact. #Czech #Praha

Just because you accept your adult #neurodivergent diagnosis doesn't mean your mental health gets better. In fact, in a lot of cases your mental health gets worse for a long time as you're trying to deal with running your brain on manual after years of automatically masking. It's extremely normal. #adhd #autistic

@actuallyautistic@a.gup.pe I just did that autistic thing again, where I present facts to someone, FYI style, trying to offer some help and guidance - without realising that they did not ask me for help, nor were they ready to accept said facts. Then to make it worse - I did another autistic thing again, where when they respond with anger, but sarcastically - I just think they are joking. How am I supposed to know they're angry when they look like they're smiling? So, my response was to laugh, like you are supposed to when someone is joking (even if you don't get it) - but then I continue to emphasise the actual facts... as they are still the actual facts, and I felt were important to understand. 💥Then everything suddenly blows up, seemingly out of nowhere!... 💥 Emotion is flying everywhere ..and now I definitely recognise the angry face. 😠 Then I have to spend the next hour playing it all back, and going through the entire thing to work out if it was my fault, and where that fault exactly was. I did conclude that there was no way for me to know that they would be triggered, and so I can't take responsibility for that. I also can't take responsibility (anymore) for not "reading the room" - in the same way someone in a wheelchair cannot take responsibility for not using the stairs - especially as I now make a point of telling people that I'm autistic. However, I did try to force help on someone, not ready to receive it, and who didn't ask for it. Something I have done many times before. Just... out of caring really - but a mistake I don't seem to realise until after I've made it. But, it isn't just that I was forcing something they are avoiding, but I also understand that with neurotypical thinking, trying to help someone who didn't ask for it, can come across as judgemental. As though you are putting yourself on a higher level, as a pretense, to look down upon them - making them feel inadequate. For me, in my mind, it was just meant FYI, and a subject I know well enough in the details to feel confident enough in relaying that information. Something that is often problematic for us Autists in many different situations. Where we present simple facts, but which are received with connotations, or with hidden meanings, that we just never meant.... #actuallyautistic #autistic #autisticlife

@KatyElphinstone@mas.to exactly this!!! I spent 25 years of my life thinking something was fundamentally wrong with me, and that I was born a broken person (I remember feeling this way as early as 4 years old even!) Turns out I am not broken, just different. My brain works exactly the way it's supposed to, and I deserve to find ways to support myself and my brain. Someone called me autistic today. Fuck you for making assumptions about me. I didn't ask for a diagnosis. But also, what if I am? So what? Who cares? That's not yours to decide or disclose or weaponize. And there's nothing wrong with being neurodivergent. I am bipolar. That is neurodivergent too. I don't need you to identify my neurology. Since when did having strong feelings about something give you the right to profile others? #Autistic #Bipolar #Neurodivergent

Is autistic distress around change necessarily a problem of personal rigidity or inflexibility? The truth is, everyone's more comfortable with change when they choose it, understand it -- and have some power over how it happens. And this is especially true for those who've been traumatised, or had deeply negative (or even just very intense!) experiences, even when others were insisting that everything was fine. So perhaps the deeper issue isn’t sameness, but safety and being listened to. 💟 #Autism #Autistic #ActuallyAutistic #Neurodivergent

8) My advice to any #woman, especially #autistic #ADHD #audhd #neurodivergent is to know you are #vulnerable. I did not. Learn #RedFlags & what healthy relationships look like. I was love bombed & experienced sexual abuse in my relationship long before we were married. Share the full truth with trusted people outside your relationship. Learn what #PityTrips & #DarkTriad personality traits are & avoid those who use them! If anything feels wrong, say no, even if you have to call the police.

I have all this stuff going on in my head every day, and what really makes me mad is when people act like I could just CHOOSE to not let it affect me. It doesn't work that way. #Autism #Autistic #MentalHealth

Nothing About Us Without Us - a disability pride bundle. July is Disability Pride Month, and this bundle celebrates disabled authors and the stories that represent us. Some of these novels are by disabled writers and range across every genre you can think of. Others center disabled characters and experiences. All of them belong here. When you pick up this bundle, your money goes to the authors in it and to Disenfranchised Writers' Voices. Pay the minimum to get every book in the bundle, or pay more to support the authors and Disenfranchised Writers' Voices further. Either way you're helping these authors get read, and get paid. My contribution, once again, is the novella 'Their Village, Their Fortress'. In addition to having been written by a disabled author, this story features a central character who makes key contributions to community defense because some people have learned how to work with him and offer reasonable accommodations. The story also shows his struggles, because I feel it is important to show them. https://itch.io/b/3783/nothing-about-us-without-us #bookstodon #itchio #bundle #disabilitypride2026 #sale #deal #TheirVillageTheirFortress #autistic #neurodivergent https://itch.io/b/3783/nothing-about-us-without-us

From my favourite blog for late realized/diagnosed autists. “If you were diagnosed late, or spent years masking, there is a good chance you learned to hide your glimmers along with everything else.“ (it should be “and/or spent“ instead of “or“ in my opinion). Anyway what are you glimmers? ——- Autistic Glimmers: The Tiny Moments That Put Your Nervous System at Ease The ten minutes in the parked car. The jumper with the right weight. The song on repeat. These are not small failures. They are how your body finds safety https://www.heyasd.com/blogs/autism/autistic-glimmers @autistics@fedigroups.social #ActuallyAutistic #autistic
