I'm genuinely surprised how much slower and clunkier #Vivaldi is on #Facebook than #Waterfox or #ZenBrowser. It's noticeable.

#SocialMedia I hereby am trying out a new plugin for #Obsidian: a post-thread-to-Mastodon plugin! It took a while for me to figure out how to actually get it to authenticate with #Mastodon; it simply would NOT do so. I tried on Linux; the results varied depending on which browser was set as my default browser; I tried both #Firefox and #Brave... I may even have tried #Waterfox too, I can't remember. [1/5]

I'm glad @Waterfox@mastodon.social Private Search has tweaked their UI to show more results, this makes it much more worthwhile and useful! Now if they could just stop emailing me a code when I have to log in (which seems very frequent). At least give me the option to use TOTP instead! #waterfox #WaterfoxPrivateSearch #search #totp #security #authentication

I'm trying @Waterfox@mastodon.social as browser from while, indeed is lighter as resources and the scrolling is, by default, a lot of smoother than other forks of Firefox I tried. Nice that includes also an adblock, that I pair with another privacy extension. The only minus, it lacks of .deb packages, and I have to resort on flatpacks. Well nothing is perfect, I guess. #foss #firefox #waterfox #browser

@Waterfox@mastodon.social ok, the update history sais, no update today. It was a week ago. The crash of windows made #waterfox to make a new profil and I could not go back to the old profile. But i could copy the important files of the old profile to the new one. So bookmarks, history, addons, ... are back.

I'm still trialling 3 different mobile browsers. I should check whether #Waterfox did the same update. My other two are Vivaldi and Midori, both of whom seem to announce all major changes.

Huh...it was surprisingly easy to get a private instance of the #Firefox sync service up and running, I'm not sure why I never thought to do this before. So now I can have my #Waterfox data sync for a backup in case anything happens to my primary system and I lose my install and it's not at all reliant on using Mozilla services that would be used to fuel their AI initiatives. Steps here are pretty accurate - https://mozilla-services.github.io/syncstorage-rs/how-to/how-to-run-with-docker.html Their steps for compiling from source were complete shit, there was so much additional work needed in order to get it to compile cleanly that they do not list in their build documentation. Honestly the container setup is so dead simple, compiling it yourself seems a waste of energy unless you're trying to build a version to run on an ARM processor or something. Anyway, I'm happy to provide what steps I had to follow to get their compilation to work on a clean VM I had just built if someone is trying to go about it the hard way.

One full week under the keel running Alpine Linux on my primary workstation. Even set root on a ZFS mirror - simple to setup. First experience with rEFInd as well - I like it. Sharp and snappy, just like the way I like my cars! Ha! No new revelations compared to the first few weeks on the test workstation... I'm still tweaking some things for personalization as it happens but all good. The Alpine repos are full of good stuff and are current/up2date in a practical manner. The only flatpaks I've had to run are Waterfox, Signal Desktop and messing around with the new CoMaps Linux version (this exists - happy! happy! joy! joy!). I'm going to migrate my Debian Bookworm servers to Alpine when I get around to the upgrades. I'll keep clients on Debian for the foreseeable future. I'm not sure why I'm so excited about Alpine, it just feels like a breathe of fresh air! Modern and simple. Enjoying it. #AlpineLinux #Linux #desktop #homelab #SelfHosted #Waterfox #Comaps #rEFInd

Except it is. Firefox, being completely open source, has enabled a viable fork - #Waterfox - that addresses your primary concern.

You say you don't have any faith in Firefox forks and just give in to Google and move to a re-skinned Chrome browser? This reads like a paid ad. It's disappointing.

And privately owned just means it can be sold to the highest bidder whenever it makes financial sense to do so.
