New page on #BurgeonLab ➡️ https://burgeonlab.com/junited-2026/ It's #Junited2026, where you share links to blog posts you enjoyed in the month of June. Sharing is caring, and I love the small web / IndieWeb, so this is a lovely initiative by Robert Birming (the creator of this community event). #blog #blogging #smallweb #smolweb #indieweb #junited #bloggers #personalsites #personalsite #personalblog #blogger

"I created my first web site in 1995. I hosted the site with my ISP, a local provider in Kirksville, MO. The ISP generously gave its customers a few megabytes of space if they wanted to host a site. The term "static" site didn't really exist then, because most if not all sites were static sites. Just HTML and a few images. No CSS, and certainly no JavaScript—which had not yet been invented." #Indieweb #smolweb https://dissociatedpress.net/blog/smolweb.html

HTML used to (mostly) be a format for reading and writing documents. As time went on, it got changed to an application format. These 2 use-cases (doc vs app) are at odds. One of the motivations in the small-net / small-web space is to take HTML back to its document format roots. Although some have have chosen to use alternative document formats such as Gemini's and Mercury's GemText. @talon@dragonscave.space RE: https://dragonscave.space/@talon/116456716105999739 #GeminiProtocol #MercuryProtocol #SmallNet #SmallWeb #SmolNet #SmolWeb

I missed this but it's brilliant : « We Need To Rewild The Internet - The internet has become an extractive and fragile monoculture. But we can revitalize it using lessons learned by ecologists. » by @mariafarrell@mastodon.social & @robin@mastodon.social Berjon « Our online spaces are not ecosystems, though tech firms love that word. They’re plantations; highly concentrated and controlled environments … that madden the creatures trapped within. » › https://www.noemamag.com/we-need-to-rewild-the-internet/ #Internet #Web #SmallWeb #Smolweb #Permacomputing
