#GAVA started with a round-the-globe roundtable update on collaboration between academia and archives. Just like #DigiPres, the gap between haves and don't-haves is quite huge. The questions raised by the panelists were also similar - how can the don't-haves stop being just a case study? The underfunded approach [pragmatic?] should be looked at closely. The centre has shifted.

#digipres I'm looking for someone to take a collection of around 150-200 (maybe more) VHS tapes with TV recordings that I have in storage. I'm cleaning out my house and need to see if anyone would be interested in taking them. The tapes are located in Mexicali, Mexico, so it'd have to be someone from the surrounding area. People have suggested I donate these to the Internet Archive, but I am unable to ship them out. I asked this a few years ago. It is NOT urgent, we got a couple of months.

The stuff I've been working on recently is finally public! I've spent the past bit revamping the social media site support in Browsertrix. We can capture much more content from Facebook and Instagram now, and I've also fixed Youtube video capture. Is there a chance that somebody at #Wikimania knows something about the recent loss of years of ahort links to #Wikidata queries on https://query-chest.toolforge.org/ The seeming flushing of all caches at some point earlier this month makes the service utterly useless and caused thousands of links in publications, on websites etc. to rot. #LinkRot #DigiPres

software mystery: does anyone have an archived copy of Case Western University's "FreePort" Free-Net software? this is the collection of server daemons and scripts that, collected together, formed the backbone of most FreeNets. despite the tools being free, the collected package and scripts were not free, and were sold and licensed to freenet operators. (chebucto appeared a few years later as a free replacement (and it is still available for download) - but it's not the same software package as FreePort.) boosts very welcome. #digiPres #softwarepreservation
