The neuroaffirmative movement replaced one narrative with another. The old one said defective. The new one says pure. Neither contains a full person. New essay on why the purity myth denies autistic people their right to complexity, and why Jung’s shadow work applies to communities, not only to individuals. https://medium.com/@christian.gajewski/why-innocence-is-autism-advocacys-gentlest-cage-afe28af2b4cc #Autism #Neurodiversity #AuDHD #MentalHealth #Jung #actuallyautistic

As a neurodivergent person I'm interested in taxonomy but as a dyslexic person I find it inconvenient that many taxa have unreadable names that differ from other taxa with just one letter. papilionoidea (butterflies) papilionidae (swallowtails) In this case its even two differences, but still it doesn't feel very inclusive to people with learning disabilities (or probably to most people I guess). #neurodivergence #neurodiversity #dyslexia #taxonomy #butterflies #inclusion

When I was a child visiting friends, I would tour every room of their apartment before I could sit down and play. I had no idea I was doing it. I just couldn't settle until I had a complete map. That pattern never went away. There's a documented phenomenon called intolerance of uncertainty: the autistic nervous system's difficulty tolerating absent information. Any gap in the map feels like a potential trapdoor. The scan runs continuously — not because something is wrong, but because the system needs more explicit data to feel oriented. The exhaustion isn't from interacting. It's from never switching off. 🧵 #autism #actuallyAutistic #neurodiversity @autistics@fedigroups.social

I remain amazed at my ability to misplace things. I swear I was just on a phone call, set down my phone and checked my email... and now I can't find my phone. It's not even a cluttered spot! I'm sitting at my kitchen table! #ADHD #neurodiversity

Fun fact about neurodiverse people Some people with Autism are wired differently, to the point where their energy is not boosted by drinking caffeine. For example, when I used to drink caffeine, I would find it doesn't give me energy, it just makes me really groggy, slow, and stressed. Drinking it right before bed (one time) also didn't do anything, I was trying to keep myself awake, but in the end, I fell asleep within 15 minutes. That is why I now just try to avoid it entirely. #Neurodiversity #Autism #Caffeine

Please help me out with a theory. Do you consider yourself to be neurodivergent or neurotypical*? Do you rely more on your cognitive skills or intuition? *If you don't know what neurodivergent or neurotypical mean, let's assume you're neurotypical. Because that's what 'typical' means - that that'

So yes, we’re all neurodiverse. The statement is quite a conversation stopper. Which, I think, is exactly the effect desired by the larger societal agenda that reinforces it. End of 🧵 Thank you! Rant over 😊 #Autistic #Autism #Neurodiversity #Neurodivergent

"We're all neurodiverse!" I've heard this phrase a lot recently. It’s both depressing and enraging to me that so many of us use it, yet seem unable either to look the word up in a dictionary or to understand the implications of saying it. A thread 🧵 ⬇️ #Autistic #Autism #Neurodiversity #Neurodivergent

Sounds don't have a shape for ME. I wish they did.
