The neuroaffirmative turn de-pathologised alexithymia. It didn't de-centralise emotion as the reference category. That distinction is everything.

Uta Frith wants to remove late-diagnosed autistic adults from the spectrum. By her own contraindicators, I shouldn’t have my diagnosis. By my 32 years of wrong diagnoses, I have my answer.

A 1980s anime handed me an honor code at ten. A clinic handed me the autism diagnosis at 48. Two names for the same nervous system, and the older one was kinder.

I recently read Cialdini's Influence: Science and Practice. The reciprocity principle raised substantial doubts for me. My autistic experience suggests that, in interactions with neurotypical people, that principle deforms in systematic ways. Alongside the double empathy problem, a parallel problem of double reciprocity may be at work.

My AuDHD mornings run on dice now. Six tasks on paper, a 1d6 for priority, a 1d20 for minutes per task, a 60-second primer timer that runs before everything else. The system that finally aligns the autistic architecture (taxonomies, protocols) with the ADHD activation (urgency, novelty). New piece today on Invisible Illness.

As for my writing process, I can divide it into two phases. The first lasted decades, involving several attempts to write novels without ever managing to finish anything decent. The second phase began spontaneously following my diagnosis. I started writing to take stock of my life, as a sort of therapy. I realized I was never meant to be a novelist, but an essayist instead. From that moment on, everything became easier. It was still laborious, of course, as results require daily consistency. Did it benefit my mental health? Absolutely. It is a life experience everyone should have. Gaining perspective on who you are, where you come from, and where you want to go, especially once you reach midlife or beyond, puts everything in a different light. (3/3) @f_o_tistic@autistics.life
