The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2026 report calculated the cost of a healthy diet is 4.28 purchasing power parity (PPP) dollars a day. This means that in any given country, a healthy diet costs the amount of local currency with the same buying power that >>>>> $4.28<<< has in the US. “The extreme poverty line is $3PPP per person,” Torero said. “So it’s significantly higher.” In Africa, 66.6% of the population was unable to afford a healthy diet in 2025, more than double the levels observed in #Asia or #LatinAmerica and the #Caribbean. #Africa is now home to the highest number of hungry people for the first time, with about 309 million, surpassing Asia’s 292 million. Today is the 25th anniversary of the murder of Carlo Giuliani, who was shot and then subsequently run over by a police van during the protests against the G8 in Genoa in 2001, part of the international uprising against globalisation which began with the "Battle of Seattle" in 1999.
