A member brought pre-grown tomatoes to the lab today, delivered by bike trailer. The mobile mini greenhouse, built from euro boxes and acrylic, fit right onto the carrier. The tomatoes are now planted in our raised beds in front of the workshop.

Finally, we got a decent disc and belt sander. A few members had been wanting this for a while, and after a member poll the community decided to get one. We went for a model with a big motor so it has enough power for typical sanding use cases.

One of our members loves light projects. Recently he finished two more, involving welding, electronics and woodworking, plus some kind of planting, even if it's mainly artificial.

Last week, one of our members ran an electronics workshop at the Uferlos Festival in Freising, where participants built their own small synthesizers. To make room for more seats, we lent out some of our soldering stations
We are now hoping to bring the same workshop to the Munich Maker Lab. Stay tuned for updates!

Around Christmas, the Munich Maker Lab received a generous donation of electronic parts, including a box full of motors, rotors and battery shields. One of our members has now turned some of it into a small laser-cut DIY kit.
More parts will be cut soon, so we can offer the kit at events.
One of our members upgraded their 3D printer lighting with a WLED-powered LED strip on an ESP32-C3, powered via a buck converter from the printer's own supply. Two buttons cycle through work, camera, and fireworks modes. The highlight: an automatic progress bar animation every 30 seconds while printing. Logic runs in Node-RED, integrated with Home Assistant.

Our garden beds are thriving. One of our members has set themselves a fun challenge: growing every single bean variety from the board game Bonanza this year. The first plants are already coming up and with a bit of luck, harvest time won't be far off — plenty of gold coins to collect.

One of our members picked up a second-hand Empisal Knitmaster 600 and got it running. A few hurdles at first, but the fabric quality coming out of this vintage machine is really great. Old iron, new creations!

Our remote controlled vehicle meetup has evolved into a broader drones and robots meetup. Members are now exploring everything from RC flying drones and cars to various robot builds with different sensors and control concepts.
The next meetup is on May 12, whether you want to work on your own project or just see what others are building, you're welcome to join. Check out www.munichmakerlab.de/events for more details.
Our logo, with its mix of text and distinct colors, makes it a great candidate for technical tests. A member recently used it as a multi-color 3D print to experiment with slicer settings and optimize material usage, while still achieving a clean, good-looking result.
We just need to make sure our 3D printed Gollum doesn't make it his precious.

Ever wondered what CMYK printing looks like in 3D? There's an OrcaSlicer fork called FullSpectrum that lets you mix filament colors similarly to how inkjet printers mix CMYK inks.
One of our members gave it a try using 3 glow-in-the-dark filaments plus white as the key color and the results speak for themselves.

One of our members built this great ceiling-mounted print drying rack for printmaking with oil-based inks, which can take up to a week to dry. The rack is made from MDF, marbles, and 3D printed brackets. To hang a print, you lift a marble, slide in the paper and release — the marble pinches the paper against the MDF and holds it in place. The design is adapted from an existing concept found online.

After our recent hot sauce tasting, a member organized the next food challenge at the lab: an olive oil tasting. The goal was to find the best oil and put a classic assumption to the test, whether the more expensive oils are always the tastier ones.
The verdict? A very exclusive oil took the top spot, one that a member brings back directly from Italy on vacation. So if you want some, better let him know before his next trip.

One of our members hand-carved a linoleum printing block, printed every panel by hand, and assembled it into this stunning Día de los Muertos inspired lantern.

The Munich Maker Lab loves vending machines. One of our oldest ones offers small DIY kits to build blinking rockets and UFOs.
We recently filled it up completely and now it's waiting for curious customers.
Stop by and grab one!

Our good old Ultimaker Unlimited Z, a 3D printer capable of objects over one meter high, has found its final spot.
It wasn't much used by members lately, so it now serves as a nice lighting object on the wall – a memory piece.

Easter is once again the perfect occasion for another round of cute 3D prints.
One of our members just printed these adorable little chicks – each guarding a chocolate treat.

This new woklette didn't stay in its original state for long!
The built-in temperature control just wasn't reliable enough for our members, who brought it to the lab for a cozy woklette session.
Naturally, they couldn't resist upgrading it and now it features full web control and a sleek interface, all thanks to a bit of creative vibe coding and maker spirit.

A member of Munich Maker Lab recently built an OpenTheremin with a friend. The OpenTheremin is an open-source electronic instrument that uses hand gestures in the air to control pitch and volume through electromagnetic fields, much like the classic theremin.
They sourced an older, affordable kit from AliExpress. After some SMD soldering and sourcing a few parts from the lab, it works perfectly. Even compiling and flashing 10-year-old Arduino code from GitHub succeeded on the first try.
Goodbye DIY CNC!
This DIY CNC has been with us for years, but it turned out to be too tricky and hard to use, so it wasn't used much. We've now sold it to another maker and will free up the space to reorganize the workshop.
Next, we'll bring in a different CNC from a member – less DIY and more practical for many people.
