We find that otherwise each packaging ecosyatem has its own way of specifying dependencies, and this makes it harder for security teams to flag issues accurately

As someone who contributes to both Fedora and Debian currently, and am increasingly leaning towards dedicating some proper time to get into Guix, the 'vibe-check' concept sounds really appealing. @mttaggart Fedora doesn't have a way to work on embargoed security issues, and even on day zero, constraints imposed by corporate sponsors (eg supporting s390x) sometimes means official updates take a while to build

But I don't know how much that is integration work vs developing key components In general I agree though, the recent EU forks seem completely unnecessary, and I say this as someone who agrees with the need for tech "sovereignty" (not sure I like the term)

I think even Curl uses LLM but IIRC it's only for doing security assessment (since external parties are using LLM to find bugs anyway), not sure if they are already using LLM for writing actual code as well or not

If I had been able to #FIRE and I'm just doing this for fun I'd be able to be more principled on this. So I mostly agree with you. "If you voluntarily use these systems" is key here - until the VC-driven AI craze meets its inevitable crash - maybe the energy crisis thanks to imperialistic hubris this year will trigger that - a lot of us are *coerced* to a greater or lesser extent to use these. I'm actually looking for AI-free projects to contribute to when I'm not being paid to do open source, so I'm watching the @debian@framapiaf.org and @guix@hachyderm.io discussions around AI policy with a mixture of curiosity and trepidation.

@viraptor @Joshsharp I have to reluctantly find a balance on this too - for me, it's "if I don't do this I get fired" and "this community is pushing AI anyway and the battle is lost". But I'm increasingly looking to seek refuge in more AI skeptical communities - everything is tainted already (Linux kernel, curl, etc) but we need to maintain areas where people are not trying to make it worse. Those are increasingly rare 😞
