Do any of the AI code assistants help significantly with *reading* code, instead of writing it? Not sure why I care, since I have no interest in either AI or coding at this point, but it seems like a bigger net win than letting it write code that then needs *deep* scrutiny before it can be deemed safe. Just curious I guess.

@glent@aus.social Agreed. Wikipedia culture is shit, somewhere between Reddit and MAGA and in much the same ways. They don't need more funding and won't get any from me until they actually spend some energy fighting disinformation. As it is, they seem to spend all of their energy fighting over who gets to be the worst pedant on the internet, with a point system based on abusing new users (including actual subject-matter experts).

My daughter's flight from Chicago to Boston was supposed to land at 3:30. DIverted to Hartford. Re-fuel and de-ice. Crazy flight path to Boston. Now they're fighting with a frozen gate. Four hours late and they haven't even gotten off the plane. I'm sure there will be more fun finding their bags, then a hellish drive home. So ... 9pm maybe?

@swelljoe@mas.to I think people *do* get more conservative as they age, but only if you use the right definition of conservative. MAGA is *not* conservative; it's radical. Conservatives prioritize comfort, continuity, order, decorum ... and there are plenty of "liberals" like that. Very frustrating for people who still believe in fighting for justice.

@parismarx From a business perspective, the biggest thing about LLMs is not what they can actually do but how they can wash away responsibility. That's a *huge* deal to the rentier class, and "AI" proponents are well aware of it.

@tuckerteague@mastodon.social Yet another way Mastodon is following in Tumblr's footsteps. There, it has long been common knowledge that likes do nothing to increase exposure but still feel super nice. I star/heart things that tickle my fancy; I reblog/boost things that I think my followers will enjoy. Lots of overlap, but definitely separate things.
