@drewph@ieji.de Technically, Librewolf did the asking, not the web page. It doesn't matter that the data is wrong, only that it is unique and identifiable. They can still track you across websites and build a profile. I set Librewolf to its strictest mode, reloaded the page, and it welcomed me back to my second visit.

@aral@mastodon.ar.al It wasn't always this bad. It was bad, yes, but not THIS BAD. We let the oligarchs take over when we de-regulated and effectively un-taxed the rich and large corporate entities in exchange for the promise of jobs. The focus was never jobs. That's not capitalism's goal. Money is. I keep saying that we can fix most of the issues we're having as a society through legislation, but instead we worship at the feet of the oligarch, the same thing we have done over and over again.

Bring your own #RaspberryPi camera, or pre-order one of theirs at secluso.com The cameras are limited to 1080p, however, so the image quality will be GOOD, but not GREAT.

It’s alive! The container host (HoloNet) is running and Docker is installed. The final (and scariest) task is to recreate the stacks from the existing server, move the external storage volume over, attach it to Proxmox, and then mount it with the container host.

So weird seeing the VM on my LAN with it’s own local IP…

Installing Debian in a console was no fun, but I got through it with the help of Claude and Gemini.

Really impressed with #Shelly, the new package manager for #Arch that is now the default on #CachyOS. It is crazy fast! The only thing I wish it did was to queue the installation of Flatpaks the way it does for repo apps so they install all at once instead of one at a time.

I also installed it on Fives, my HP laptop running #Garuda, and it works great there as well. Still gonna’ use garuda-update for updates, though, just in case.

@eugenialoli Just having a look at the ridiculous number of services that run all the time on macOS makes me wonder how it runs as well as it does. Apps must be constantly swapping. I’m betting Apple kept the RAM at 8GB to allow them to keep the price stable with RAM prices going bananas at the moment. As it’s non-upgradeable, (and I’ve moved to Linux) I still won’t be buying a Neo, but kudos to Apple for the repairability and for the market disruption.

Interesting that Apple chose to compare their brand new M5 CPU family to the M1, and not to the M4.

Not that I’ll be purchasing any Apple laptops, mind you. The OS experience and lack of repairability (and more significantly the lack of upgradeability) has completely turned me away from their offerings.

When I was using Windows, macOS was the “dark side.” Now I understand that BOTH are, and Linux and open-source are the light.

@thelinuxEXP Once again, I agree with your rankings! My only divergence is whether I could easily switch between #Plasma, #GNOME, and #Cinnamon. Yes, I suppose I could, but I wouldn’t like it. I could definitely see having a long-term relationship with #COSMIC once it matures. I agree that animations make a DE feel “finished,” but I’m still glad to see them prioritize features for right now.

#GarudaLinux works so well on my 10th-gen laptop, I thought surely it won’t be able to work on my old 2014 iMac, it’s probably too old.

Garuda Linux: Hold my beer. And don’t call me Shirley.

After the debacle that was Manjaro a few years ago, Garuda has restored my faith in Arch distros.

As a hobbyist, I have 2 Linux-exclusive laptops, 1 laptop and 1 desktop that dual-boot Linux and macOS, 1 Linux-only desktop, and 3 Raspberry Pi SBCs. My current distro of choice is @ultramarine@fedi.fyralabs.com, with my hybrid graphics laptop running #NobaraLinux, but for friends and family I strongly recommend #LinuxMint.
