@Edent@mastodon.social I have learned I don't return for the open tabs. So if they are related to some thing important or interestimg to me, I create Joplin note about the topic, and save the link along short wording why I need to check it. Then collect relevant other info into note as well. And immediately get rid of the tab. #Joplin is my choise, any note taking app will do. I also enabled the kanban module of it, so I can add thr most relevant notes to my todo priority list. Give it a try, this helps me in the info/task overload. Endless open tabs just add tto stress.

Finally replaced Google Keep notes as part of my personal Big Tech exodus. After considering Obsidian and LogSeq, I chose Joplin: markdown-based, with E2E encryption and native sync to various backends, including to my existing OpenCloud deployment. #joplin #opencloud

It looks like #joplin has been infected by the "AI" madness as well. The new version (3.7.x) adds an "AI" chat to the app. Very sad to see these changes. Now I'll have to move elsewhere... #noai #fuckai #aislop

It seems Joplin has had a little bit of a delay in its releases, and simultaneously seems to have been having an AI chat bot built into it in v. 3.7 and newer versions. V. 3.6.15's AppImage was about 150 MB; vv. 3.7+ are now at ~400 MB. https://github.com/laurent22/joplin/releases#release-v3.7.3 #Joplin

#Joplin update woes: I don't use Joplin on the desktop as much as on the phone, which means that I had neglected updating the desktop version (AppImage; yes, Linux) for some time. Today I finally did open it, and saw several notes being un-encryptable. Okay, time to update, I guess. Only problem turned out to be that version 3.5.11 and 3.5.13 (the two I tried) don't load properly: the app only shows a grey rectangle with a half menubar that doesn't respond to button presses. So I tried to get back to version 3.4.x. Nope, can't do, the profile is too new. So version 3.5.x did do something: update the profile and prevent me from opening an older version. What finally solved it was to restore $HOME/.config/Joplin and $HOME/.config/joplin-desktop from backup, and run version 3.4.10. The app opens, and all notes decrypt properly. I still don't dare trying to run 3.5.x again - it would probably require another restore from backup in order to get back to 3.4.x again. As an aside, I did learn that backintime backups of softlinks can get you to the live version of a file rather than the backed up version. Which is why my 2 week old backup looked like it contained files that had been updated 43 minutes ago - those files weren't the backed up files, but the live ones. #TimjanGrumpsOnComputers

In all other news I'm looking at switching to #KleverNote over from #Joplin for Markdown-based #notes simply because it may be lighter on system resources. I am aware that Joplin is #Electron-based, and unfortunately, Electron-based apps are not the best when it comes to resource usage. At least, doing a quick RAM usage test between the two shows that KleverNote, in my test case, used almost half of the RAM Joplin used, but that was just looking at System Monitor's memory usage for the two. Maybe it's because I didn't have as many notes as compared to Joplin, but unless there's something huge going on, I doubt that KleverNote would use the same amount of memory Joplin does when it has the same notes. Anyways, we'll see how it works out! 😄
