Ansible is easy to install. A sane, reproducible development environment takes more thought. TUXEDO OS wechselt die Basis von Ubuntu auf #Debian, während #OpenMandriva über Repository-Sabotage klagt. #Podman 6.0 bringt neue Features und schneidet alte Zöpfe ab. Die Vorstandswahl der GNOME Foundation sorgt für Diskussionen. De momento voy a aprovechar para hacer un hilo y contar algunos proyectos/softwares que estoy usando. La base de todo es Raspberry Pi OS + Podman + Quadlets: mientras Docker necesita un daemon corriendo para gestionar los ocntenedores, con Quadlets creas un archivo .container y Podman genera automáticamente servicios nativos de systemd. Con esto tenés inicio automático, logs con journalctl, gestión de dependencias entre servicios, y suma mucho lo de daemonless (sin dockerd consumiendo memoria) y rootless (no correr aplicaciones como root). #HomeLab #Linux #Podman #RaspberryPi

Neuer Artikel im Blog. „Gibt's für podman eigentlich auch was Grafisches?" Ja, gibt es. Nur läuft die GUI da, wo der server gar nicht ist. podman desktop sitzt auf dem Notebook, die container hängen per SSH am server. Es zeigt übrigens auch docker-container an – docker desktop umgekehrt keine podman-engine. Die Kompatibilität ist eine Einbahnstraße. Ich erwäge, den Server nachts abzuschalten und morgens zu starten. Leider gibt es bislang Probleme beim Reboot, wenn das System ein paar Tage gelaufen ist. Ganz zu schweigen davon, dass ich wohl #Podman Quadlets meistern und die automatisierte LUKS-Entschlüsselung sauber hinbekommen müsste. Aber eins nach dem anderen... Also versuche ich, ob ein UEFI-Upgrade hilft. Also zuerst mal #BMC für #IPMI konfiguriert und darüber das Upgrade gemacht. So weit, so gut. ✅ Hab jetzt rausgefunden, dass man das Upgrade von #UEFI bei #SuperMicro wohl am Besten via Webinterface aktualisiert. Jetzt scheitere ich daran, dass ein Product Key verlangt wird. Neuer Tip im Blog : Letztens haben wir den pod komplett automatisiert - als Service, mit auto-update. läuft. Nur auf Alma / Rocky / etc grätscht beim bind-mount dann SELinux dazwischen. If you want to try @rolle@mementomori.social`s #MastodonBirdUI theme along with the "for you" feed algorithm, here is a guide how to run it locally in containers. The setup is suitable for testing and developing. Have fun! Alright, crash course to #mastodon hosting basics. It's been long in my mind to try #MastodonBirdUI in #container. @michael@mstdn.thms.uk kindly added container build workflow to get fresh images every time @rolle@mementomori.social makes a new release. Today I learned #traefik and made it load balance birdUI running on #podman. Lot of new things for me, but eventually it works. I'll drop the configs somewhere once I have the time if someone wants to try. Every few months, I search the web for a good template setup to migrate from Mastodon from podman-compose to quadlets. Are you using quadlets? I noticed that 2 weeks ago @shadow@vmst.io ( new account @darkpixel@infosec.exchange) published quadlet files at https://codeberg.org/darkpixel/Mastodon-Podman-Quadlets 👏 Why don't you compare/share your setups? 🙃

Cron im Podman läuft nicht . Nach etwas Recherche liegt es letztlich an pam_loginuid , da muss man erstmal drauf kommen. Weekend project that turned into infra I actually run daily: MastoSum. The stack: RHEL host, 100% rootless Podman. Web on FastAPI, Celery worker/beat/flower, PostgreSQL 16, Valkey. All on userspace networking (pasta), images built & shipped by a self-hosted Forgejo runner. No root daemon, no privileged anything. What it does: tracks technical hashtags all day and produces one daily briefing, every point linked to the original post + author. It reads only public hashtag timelines, credits every source, and trains on nothing. And yes, an LLM writes the prose: a local Ministral model from French lab Mistral AI, running on my own hardware. No cloud, nothing leaving the box. Saying that plainly, not burying it. The whole design goal was to point readers *back* at the authors, not replace reading them. Tonight's fun was trying to speed up #perplexica on a local homelab install with ollama, I run it on a mac mini m4, 16gb so am limited in models I can use, however 3 minutes to tell me how to make a pizza across multiple models seemed slow.. It was, same question, same #ollama, same models on #AnythingLLM 15 seconds.. I have ended up keeping the #searxng install which was quick and works well. Tomorrow I want to work out more about anything llm and RAG and the any cli that it has, as if I can do what I need to using that, I might move over from warp.dev to tabby with any cli.. Lets see.. Also seems like #lens has added more agentic on its #kubernetes app, interested to see what that might do Also might move from #docker to #podman and spin up a local 3 node k8s cluster on the laptop too. Ich wollte mal #Podman ausprobieren. War ne absolut dumme Idee. Es hat halt einfach kein #Docker Container mehr funktioniert. Trotz Änderung am Socket und Network, konnte ich einfach keinen Container mehr aufrufen.

Päätin tutustua tänään vähän lähemmin Podmaniin ja siitä tuli kysymys sitä käyttäville: miten ajelette taustalle jääviä kontteja? Jos en ole ihan väärin ymmärtänyt, tähän vaikuttaisi olevan kaksi tapaa. Ensimmäinen on quadletsien käyttäminen eli niillä käytännössä voi korvata compose-tiedoston. Jos taas haluaa käyttää perinteistä compose-tiedostoa, se pitää käynnistää systemd-palveluna. Onko tähän vielä jotain muita tapoja? Vai olenko ymmärtänyt ihan väärin? Pingaan tähän @ikkeT@mementomori.social kun tiedän, että käytät Podmania ☺️ Itse olen pitänyt siitä, että palvelujen kaikki tiedostot ja konfiguraatiot ovat yhdessä paikassa, joten itse varmaan taipuisin tuohon jälkimmäiseen vaihtoehtoon. Vähän tylsää, että joutuu tekemään sen compose-tiedoston lisäksi toisenkin konfiguraatiotiedoston, mutta ei voi mitään. Olen muuten melko yllättynyt siitä, kuinka moni opas jättää kokonaan mainitsematta sen, että podmanilla käynnistetyt kontit katoavat kun käyttäjä kirjautuu pihalle. Varsinkin jos opas on tarkoitettu Dockerista siirtyville, tuo on aika oleellinen tieto 😅 #podman
