Les pierres levées (orimbato) de Madagascar notamment très présentes sur les hauts plateaux (en région Merina qui entoure la capitale), étaient généralement des symboles érigés en pleine campagne entre les villages pour marquer les grandes décisions des anciens rois et sceller leur mémoire.
