I put together a blog post on installing #HaikuOS on a new-ish MacBook Pro. YMMV, but I would love to hear reports from other people who have and their success level on this. This weekend, I really need to check into running #HaikuOS on a #MacBookPro. I really loved #BeOS back in the day, and it seems like this would be a fun little plafform to develop apps for fun.

Mozilla has granted permission to use the Firefox name for the Haiku port. It came by email to Gerasim Troeglazov (3dEyes) from Mike Kaply, copying Mozilla's Lead Counsel for IP. The question had been open since November 2024. The address to write to was in the distribution policy quoted in that thread's first post. Haiku just gave beta6 a date: mid-August. Yet the June report still surfaces foundational bugs: an I/O scheduler flaw that could corrupt data on modern SSDs, a memory control register misinitialized at EFI boot, and Haiku Inc.'s 2025 financial report still missing. I'm working on LANterna, a native network scanner for Haiku: every device on your LAN at a glance, with IP, hostname, open ports, vendor and device type identified via ARP, mDNS, NetBIOS, SNMP and SSDP. No Qt, no sniffing, no cloud: just POSIX sockets and BeAPI. The portable core is done and tested, the native UI still needs testing on real #Haikuos. I need to check into what it takes to run #HaikuOS on a mac again. I tried it in the past, and it was kind of a pain, and i could never really get it to work right. but! this was years ago.

Sotoportego 0.1.0 is out: a native VPN client for Haiku with working end-to-end OpenVPN. Import an .ovpn, optionally save the password in the keystore, and the tunnel comes up. How do you know early when #Haikuos is preparing for a new release? It's when I start asking people to have a look at our #i18n / #translation tool and help complete translations for various languages. For beta releases, our policy is to include only languages where the translation is at least 60% complete. This time we need help to reach this in Belarusian, Croatian, Bulgarian, and Slovenian. Lithuanian and Slovak are above 60% but may need some help too.
