Minor note about something: I've been following the development of assorted #Fediverse #Distros on #Github since spring 2023 Currently subscribe to, or follow: Aurae, Bitchat, Bluesky, Bonfire, Discourse || Meta, Fedi_Reports, FediDB, Glitch_Soc, GoToSocial, Haidra, Hister, LemmyNet, Loops, Mastodon, Maven, Nivenly, Nostr, OpenClaw, Phanpy, Pixelfed, Snarfed-Bridgy, WC3_ActivityPub Not interested in code or coding in the least: that would have been 20 years ago Only watching the features and issues raised, and how they're addressed and responded-to by admins and devs Watching how admins and devs respond to the (very few) members of the public who ever post on Git with requests or suggestions Most of those are ignored completely So now most days I just wholesale-delete what's shown up over night, and start each day afresh, scanning all before delete So: @ 7:40 am PDT: delete an even 300 Github posts in trash from overnight, and reset Interesting, and a mostly-unseen side of the legendary #Fedi Here: https://github.com/MadokVaur

Why sponsor #openSUSE? #OBS builds more than 100k packages across dozens of #distros and architectures. #Hardware vendors get drivers validated everywhere from a single source. #Linux #OpenSource https://news.opensuse.org/2026/07/20/case-for-sponsoring-os/

Today I learned that there are some proprietary components in #Linux #distros. I learned the deep stuff like firmware is no escape. But there are some distros who will include #proprietary stuff for workflow. I checked my #Mint and there was nothing, or at least the check told me, I'm as #FOSS as if I'd be on #Debian. This made me relax a bit. But also learned that Debian gives a priority to Foss stuff more than any distro out there. That's a nice thing to know.

I don't know what will be my journey with #Linux #distros in the future. As a new comer, I'm using #Linuxmint. I'm obsessed with #FOSS and Linux now. I feel I'll be exploring new distros for the sake of learning, learning about computers, and how things work, it is rich. But eventually, I feel I'd settle on something that works, as I need to be productive and take care of my work/job. So eventually, I see myself going back to Mint or even something similar. Going back to a distro that'll stay out of my way, let me focus on my work, something reliable and stable.

I'm learning about #Wayland watching videos and reading articles. I had no idea about the current discussions in the #Linux community. What prompted this is news today about #Linux #mint tailoring Wayland. After all, I'm excited, because eventually all of this means more flexibility and security for Linux #distros. I was thinking of having #i3 on my #Linux_Mint but I'm not sure if I'll actually need it or if it will be worthy for me. I open multiple apps and browser tabs while working on my machine.

RAM Verbrauch von Linux-Live Distros

Motivation Ich bin immer auf der Suche nach schlanken Systemen mit wenig #Ressourcenverbrauch. Diesmal wollte ich wissen, was #Linux #Distros “out of the Box” an Speicher verbrauchen.

@FediFollows@social.growyourown.services you ought to include the contacts of #opensource champions like the #developers of #linux #distros like #mxlinux #linuxMint #debian #archlinux, #developers of some prime #mastodon instances, #piefed instances, #codeberg , #github and email services like #mailo and #proton. That way, we would be able to reach out to them through #socialmedia whenever we need their support. This informal channel is oftentimes better than your regular email.

Plasma is getting better and better and the time has come to install it on your friends and parents computers. All you have to do in 2026 to migrate someone to linux is pick a sane base distro, like fedora or debian, install plasma and the kde software suite on it and show them how to install and upgrade packages. That's it. Additional recomendations: If they have older windows software they still use, install them the bottles flatpak and show them how to use it. If they really need office, show them how to use it in the browser. If they ever used photoshop, show them krita. Additional opinion on picking the distro: I think if they are a tinkerer, don't hesitate and give them an archlinux install. arch-install exists and it takes no time to get kde plasma installed with it. They will love the archwiki and probably profit from the AUR at some point. https://kde.org/announcements/plasma/6/6.6.0/ #kde #linux #distros #didit

My last two #distros have been Arch-based (one bring literally Arch, currently Endeavour), but I'm strongly considering hopping back to #LinuxMint. My far my most solid and stable #Linux experience. I will miss the #AUR though....

Zorin OS 🐧is slated as an excellent pick for anyone switching to Linux right out of Windows | Zorin OS 18 passed *1 million downloads* in a month 📈 ◉ Zorin OS: based on Ubuntu and purposefully designed for new comers to Linux ◉ Over 78% of these downloads indeed came from Windows users ◉ Zorin OS is free but one can support the project via Pro license (+advanced features) https://blog.zorin.com/2025/11/18/test-the-upgrade-from-zorin-os-17-to-18-and-celebrating-1-million-downloads-of-zorin-os-18 #ZorinOS #Linux #distros #migration #Windows #deleteWindows
