He's not unique in this regard, either. It's time to stop getting fooled every time a Democrat says there's a genocide in #Gaza. They're not going to stop it. Even if they wanted to, the #party machinery that gets elected fundamentally prevents it. The only #electoral means of stopping #imperial genocides is a dedicated #AntiImperialist party. But whether we put in the decades of hard #work to #build one or not, we need to focus on #DirectAction to #sabotage the genocidal #systems.

I can host some people again, who need somewhere to tent for up to 2 weeks at a time, starting in September. No longterm stays though. Only short term, emergency or hunting for more permanent housing is OK. We are in South Saanich area & close to all amenities & hospital is nearby too. #BeTheChange #Grassroots #CommunitySupport #HelpTheHomeless #DirectAction #LiveByYourValues #Humanitarians #HelpWhenYouCan #CitizensCreateChange #Homelessness #HelpBeforeJudging

"Direct action, what is it? Does it work? Yes." #RobbieNicol, Citizen's Handbook, s02ep5, 2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1GW52tsgZg Although scholars from Te Ao o Rongomaraeroa at Otago University have collected copious evidence that it's *nonviolent* direct action that leads to the most lasting positive change. It's the combination of willful violation of unjust rules, and a commitment to protect living things - including people - that gives it potency. #DirectAction #CitizensHandbook #satire #video

Today in Labor History July 26, 1990: President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law. On April 5, 1977 U.S. disability rights activist stormed and occupied the offices of the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle. They demanded enactment of section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which had passed Congress four years prior. The law mandated that no federally funded programs could exclude persons with disabilities and put into place legal protections, and the right to accommodations, for students with disabilities. During the San Francisco protests, disability rights activists Judith Heumann, Kitty Cone, and Mary Jane Owen organized a 25-day occupation of the US Federal Building with 150 other activists. Solidarity support was provided by the Black Panthers, allied politicians, and the International Association of Machinists, who donated food, mattresses, wheelchairs, and other equipment, and who helped a delegation get to Washington, D.C. The regulations for section 504 were ultimately signed into law on 28 April, 1977. For a really great documentary on the birth of this movement, please see “Crip Camp, A Disability Revolution” (2020). #workingclass #LaborHistory #CivilDisobedience #occupation #directaction #disability #ableism #union #solidarity # #blackpanthers #sanfrancisco #JudithHeumann #KittyCone #MaryJaneOwen #BlackMastodon

Call for support❤️‍🔥

Asker Municipality has now applied to tear down the house, the fire department is assessing fire safety. We see this as clear preparations for a possible eviction.

That's why we need you now:

  • Have strategic debates with us about whether evictions are a meaningful strategy.
  • Make plans for how to keep this struggle alive even after possible destructions.

#DirectAction is a historically effective way to protect #WorkingClass interests. China's #TonghuaSteel was set to be privatized, with 5/6 of its workers laid off to increase profitability. On #ThisDayInHistory in 2009, workers beat an executive to death. The sale was cancelled.

Paid post just released today, providing a framework for starting a zero-waste lifestyle using the kitchen as a starting point! We give a thorough examination of what our key waste-producing habits likely are and several concrete solutions for each -- considering which are going to ultimately reduce waste at all points in the process and not just help us reduce the amount *we* throw in the trash. Please remember that every paid subscription helps us keep the ranch running in lieu of other income, so that $5 a month means a whole lot to us! If you can, we hope you consider it. But either way, I hope those of you already paying get value from this one! https://rancholibertad.com/start-a-zero-waste-lifestyle-beginning-in-your-kitchen/ #ZeroWaste #Sustainability #ClimateChange #DirectAction

Today in Labor History July 17, 1944: Two ammunition ships exploded at Port Chicago, CA (now known as the Concord Naval Weapons Center). The explosion killed 322 sailors, including 202 African-Americans assigned by the Navy to handle explosives. The explosion could be seen 35 miles away in San Francisco, across the Bay. In response, 258 African-Americans refused to return to the dangerous work, initiating what would be known as the Port Chicago Mutiny. 50 of the men were convicted and sentenced to hard labor. 47 were released in 1946. During their court proceedings, Thurgood Marshall, working then for the NAACP, prepared an appeal campaign, noting that only black men had been assigned to the dangerous munitions loading job. At the time, navy had over 100,000 black sailors, but no black officers. Beginning in 1990, a group of 25 Congressional leaders began a campaign to exonerate the mutineers. However, Congress did not exonerate the men until 2019. In the 1980s, activists regularly protested at the Concord Naval Weapons Center against U.S. arms shipments to the Contras in Nicaragua. These shipments were supposedly secret, and illegal under the Congressional Boland Amendment. The base shipped 60,000 to 120,000 tons of munitions each year to U.S. forces and allies, including the Contras. On September 1, 1987, a weapons train deliberately ran over veterans who were blockading the tracks, including Brian Willson, who lost both of his legs, and a portion of his frontal lobe, in the collision. Days later, activists dismantled the train tracks. And for years after, activists maintained a 24-hour vigil at the site. The FBI had been surveilling Willson for more than a year as a “domestic terrorist,” even though all of his activism and protests had been entirely nonviolent. The train crew had been told to not stop the train, even if protesters were on the tracks. #workingclass #LaborHistory #brianwillson #portchicago #ConcordNavalWeaponsCenter #nicaragua #contras #sandinistas #directaction #civildisobedience #domesticsurveillence #fbi #mutiny #weapons #disaster #racism #blm #naacp #thurgoodmarshall #terrorism #BlackMastodon

Genau an diesem Punkt setzt anarchistische Basisarbeit an. (...) "Wir sind kein linker Szene-Ort sondern ein Zentrum für den offenen Austausch. Das Ziel des Raums ist zu aller erst einmal eine Gemeinschaft zu schaffen, die Vereinzelung zu überwinden, dass wir uns wieder einander kennen und helfen als Nachbarn."' https://www.anarchismus.de/blog/theorie/anarchistisches-verstaendnis-von-basisarbeit #Anarchy #Anarchismus #MutualAid #DirectAction #Solidarität

“What The Filton Six Destroyed” by Nida Jafri in The Canary @thecanaryuk@independent-media.co.uk @uk_politics @palestine@fedibird.com @Palestine@masto.ai @palestine@lemmy.ml @iran @iraq@mastodon.social @palestinenews@gts.liberated.press “Over the course of two years – following an unusual arrest under counter-terror powers, eighteen months on remand, a first trial, a second trial, and two separate proceedings against Charlotte Head’s barrister – it has become increasingly difficult to believe that the government is prosecuting the Filton 25 for property damage. It is prosecuting the concept of direct action. But the Filton 25’s alleged action has also exposed something larger: the convergence of drone warfare, artificial intelligence, and industrialised killing that is reshaping warfare in the 21st century” https://www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/2026/06/29/what-filton-destroyed/ #Press #SocialMedia #UK #PalestineAction #PalestinianGenocide #Filton25 #Elbit #ElbitSystems #DirectAction #JudgeJohnson #MI6 #Labour #Starmer #Prisecution #Proscription #AbuseOfPower #Authoritarianism #Dictatorship

As #SouthCarolina lawmakers debated removing their #DixieSwastika following a #WhiteSupremacist mass murder in their state, activist #BrewNewsome chose #DirectAction on #ThisDayInHistory in 2015, climbing the flagpole at the statehouse to tear that #racist flag of #treason down.
