"USAID helped fund key divisions of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), such as the Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria. Much of that division was focused on the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), a program to combat malaria abroad, as well as other programs to fight neglected tropical diseases." https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/5984356-usaid-cuts-cyclospora-response/ #PublicHealth #diarrhea #cyclospora #epidemiology #HHS #FDA #CDC #DOGE #USpol

"Experts have long said the U.S. is underprepared to rein in foodborne outbreaks. But after the Trump administration slashed key officials — from federal employees who investigate the source of illnesses to those who share information with the public — Kennedy appears to face an even more daunting task to contain the parasite and build trust in the administration’s response." https://www.cnbc.com/2026/07/23/cyclospora-outbreak-tests-rfk-jr-response-funding-cuts.html #PublicHealth #diarrhea #cyclospora #epidemiology #HHS #FDA #CDC #DOGE #USpol

The entire Taylor Farms Cyclospora lettuce debacle with an FDA backpedal is highly suspect to me - especially when this corporation has been a huge contributor to the current admin and the backpedal occurred after the fact they had a "private meeting". It is especially true when people realize Taylor Farms private labels their lettuce for what seems like at least 1/3 of the lettuce products out there, and this affects a large number of other corporations with its enormous, and dominant, market share. You'd think instead of the FDA calling this a "false positive" , despite the huge list of epidemiological evidence in the matter, they would have actually tested the lettuce that was apart of the recall first. Yes, the lettuce they tested was a "contaminated sample collected through targeted import surveillance as part of the agency's investigation. The agency said Taylor Farms confirmed the positive sample is not part of the company's voluntary recall". A federal agency announcing a positive match to the public and then retracting it within 24 hours, despite all the evidence, ...that must be a historical rarity. https://www.wired.com/story/diarrhea-outbreak-taylor-farms-maga-donations-lobbying/ https://www.yahoo.com/news/science/articles/fda-taylor-farms-lettuce-thats-232436144.html#:~:text=The%20FDA,agency%20said,-%2E https://www.fda.gov/food/outbreaks-foodborne-illness/investigation-5-state-outbreak-cyclospora-illnesses-iceberg-lettuce-july-2026 https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/20/well/eat/cyclospora-false-positive-lettuce-taylor-farms-fda.html https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/cyclospora/after-withdrawing-false-positive-test-fda-says-taylor-farms-lettuce-still-focus #taylorfarms #recall #Cyclospora #uspol #food

Maybe #Felon47 & the morally bankrupt #republicans should focus on tracing & stopping the #Cyclospora #cyclosporiasis outbreak afflicting their own citizens & #foodsupply rather than #blamingCanada for #climatecrisis #WildfireSmoke smoke. Get your own house in order & stop distracting from the #EpsteinFiles & #iranwar.

"In a Monday clarification, the agency said its false positive does not change its prior conclusion that the outbreak is linked to shredded iceberg lettuce from central Mexico supplied by Taylor Farms, which was also served at some Taco Bell locations. The agency is still advising Americans not to eat recalled iceberg lettuce." https://www.cnbc.com/2026/07/20/cyclosporiasis-fda-taylor-farms-lettuce-false-positive.html #PublicHealth #FDA #cyclospora #diarrhea

The FDA's cyclospora test of Taylor Farms was apparently a false positive. So, are we back to square one with finding the source of the cyclospora diarrhea outbreak? https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/fda-says-taylor-farms-cyclospora-finding-was-false-positive-2026-07-20/ #publichealth #cyclospora #diarrhea #trumporrhea

So, what to do with those storebought #grapes to ensure #FoodSafety? Why roast them! I came across this simple-yet-delicious Mediterranean recipe which pairs well with walnuts! Balsamic Roasted Grapes Recipe: A Flavorful Delight Balsamic Roasted Grapes are a delightful culinary surprise that marries the sweetness of grapes with the tangy depth of balsamic vinegar. This dish is not only simple to prepare but also adds a sophisticated touch to any meal. Roasting grapes intensifies their natural sugars and when combined with balsamic vinegar, they transform into a rich, savory-sweet accompaniment that pairs beautifully with various dishes. This recipe has gained popularity for its versatility and ease, making it a favorite among both professional chefs and home cooks. Whether you’re looking to elevate a cheese platter, enrich a salad, or add a unique topping to your favorite protein, balsamic roasted grapes are sure to impress. The origins of using balsamic vinegar in cooking can be traced back to Modena, Italy, where producers have been crafting this syrupy condiment for centuries. Its use with fruits, particularly grapes, highlights the adaptability of balsamic vinegar in enhancing natural flavors. For more insights on balsamic vinegar, you can visit Serious Eats. Ingredients for Balsamic Roasted Grapes 2 cups seedless red or black grapes 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 tablespoon honey Salt to taste Freshly ground black pepper Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional) Instructions for Making Balsamic Roasted Grapes 1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Rinse the grapes thoroughly under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel. 2. In a small bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and honey until well combined. 3. Place the grapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. 4, Drizzle the balsamic mixture over the grapes, ensuring they are evenly coated. 5. Season the grapes with a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper. 6. Scatter rosemary sprigs on top for added flavor, if desired. 7. Roast the grapes in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are soft and slightly caramelized. 8. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. I'm looking for US cyclosporia outbreak updates, and it looks like Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce may *not* be the culprit: "The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on ‌Sunday that laboratory experts re-reviewed sample results in the Taylor Farms cyclospora investigation and concluded the finding should be considered a false ‌positive." Are we any closet to knowing what is and is not safe to eat? https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/cyclospora-false-positive-taylor-farms-9.7276107 #FoodSafety #Cyclospora #Cyclosporiasis #PublicHealth

"The Marketside finding deserves its own paragraph, because of what CDC told NBC News on Friday morning: shredded lettuce sold in grocery stores or served in other restaurants is not affected. Taylor Farms’ own recall notice lists consumer retail bags of shredded iceberg lettuce and iceberg salad. Both statements are in the public record this weekend and they cannot both be true. Federal officials themselves told STAT that other brands, restaurants, retailers or distribution channels could yet be tied to the outbreak. And Michigan’s chief medical executive, Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, made the point plainly: a supplier that sells to restaurants may also stock grocery stores, and many people who got sick in her state said they never ate at Taco Bell." "Taylor Farms Posted Its Own Recall. It Went to 27 States, Not 5 — and the List Includes Bags Sold in Grocery Stores." by Bill Marler July 18th 2026 https://www.marlerblog.com/case-news/taylor-farms-posted-its-own-recall-it-went-to-27-states-not-5-and-the-list-includes-bags-sold-in-grocery-stores #Cyclosporiasis #Cyclospora #FoodBorneIllness #PublicHealth #Diarrhea #DiarrheaLettuce

Taylor Farms STILL hasn't given details to the public on where the #cyclospora tainted iceberg lettuce was shipped. "the F.D.A. said on its website that Taylor Farms “has not publicly provided distribution information or a list of customers who received the product that was voluntarily removed from the market.” Why not? "F.D.A. regulations do not require the company to do so, a source of frustration for food safety leaders." https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/18/health/taylor-farms-iceberg-lettuce-recall.html?unlocked_article_code=1.y1A.YZJh.sv7MYlp_PtkO&smid=url-share Gift link. https://www.cdc.gov/cyclosporiasis/outbreaks/07-26/index.html

The public could've known where the #cyclospora tainted lettuce was sent within 24 hours under a new law. It was supposed to go into effect Jan 20, 2026. But the FDA proposed pushing it to July 2028 & Congress agreed. Had it been operating, the 27 state distribution list & the real names of outlets selling & serving the lettuce would've been in FDA’s hands in a day — in May. Instead we got them in the 3rd week of July, from a corporate website, as abbreviations. https://www.marlerblog.com/case-news/taylor-farms-posted-its-own-recall-it-went-to-27-states-not-5-and-the-list-includes-bags-sold-in-grocery-stores/

"The F.D.A. said that a new sample from the company’s Mexico facility had tested positive for cyclospora and that the agency was trying to trace affected products." "The investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention initially tied the parasite to lettuce that Taylor Farms shipped to Taco Bell in five states earlier this week. However, the recall notice by Taylor Farms late Friday suggested far broader distribution of potentially contaminated greens." Good to see a definitive tie to a specific product at a specific facility — assuming the FDA can be trusted. And good to see the finger not being pointed exclusively at Taco Bell, which has been pretty good at quickly pulling its lettuce and being open about doing so, if I'm reading the reporting correctly. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/18/health/taylor-farms-iceberg-lettuce-recall.html?unlocked_article_code=1.ylA.v1KF.PQjXTlRGjLjF&smid=url-share #Cyclospora

From paris martineau @paris.nyc Consumer Reports: What we know so far is that the recalled iceberg lettuce was sent to Walmart stores and many major foodservice distributors, including Sysco, in 27 states between June 29 and July 16.
