The #FDA was going to implement a stronger food traceability rule until Taylor Farms (the people who brought you stutterbutt lettuce) started lobbying against it and after the FDA delayed implementing the rule TF gave $1M to MAGA, Inc. because of course they did. Once again the only notable thing about this is that they left a paper trail. #ExplosiveDiarrhea #DiarrheaLettuce #SaladShooter https://bsky.app/profile/publichealthguy1.bsky.social/post/3mqzxf6r77s22

From paris martineau @paris.nyc Consumer Reports: What we know so far is that the recalled iceberg lettuce was sent to Walmart stores and many major foodservice distributors, including Sysco, in 27 states between June 29 and July 16. The only product names we know are from Walmart: Marketside Bagged Iceberg Salad and Bagged Shredded Iceberg Salad #cyclospora #foodSafety #explosivediarrhea #foodrecall #Lettuce https://www.consumerreports.org/health/food-recalls/taylor-farms-pulls-mexican-lettuce-linked-to-cyclospora-para-a7871344748/

Given the lack of details provided by Taylor Farms thus far, Consumer Reports' food safety experts are advising folks in the 27 states implicated by the recall to discard ALL iceberg lettuce until we know more about where the parasite-linked products ended up By Paris Martineau, Consumer Reports A map of the 27 states impacted by the recall: AL, AR, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, and WI. #explosivediarrhea #cyclospora

CDC: Investigation Update: Cyclospora Outbreak, July 2026 "CDC, FDA, and public health officials in several states are investigating a multistate outbreak of Cyclospora infections linked to shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell locations in 5 states. Do not eat shredded iceberg lettuce from Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia. CDC is also investigating other outbreaks and illnesses of cyclosporiasis nationally that are unrelated to this outbreak. 🌮 The Explosive Diarrhea Outbreak Is About to Get Much Bigger 「 Unlike some of the more common foodborne pathogens, cyclospora is resistant to bleach and common sanitizers used by food manufacturers. “Despite the commercial approaches to washing the produce that ends up in our grocery stores, the oocysts can continue to stick,” says Beatty. (Oocysts are the infectious stage of the parasite.) 」 https://www.wired.com/story/explosive-diarrhea-outbreak-about-to-get-bigger/ #explosivediarrhea #cyclospora #publichealth

How did the #Cyclospora outbreak get so out of control? "One issue that is probably impeding the investigation is that 'the number of staff working on these outbreaks is not what it used to be,' says Barratt, who worked at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (#CDC) in Atlanta for eight years and led the parasite surveillance team there. Barratt left the agency ten months ago, after the administration of US President Donald #Trump fired employees or encouraged them to leave in a bid to downsize the government." https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-026-02225-w #ExplosiveDiarrhea
