Any #baking #fruitcake #christmascake #foodsafety experts know if 2 Christmas cakes I started last August but never iced for Christmas would be safe to eat this year? I fed them brandy up until December last year but then events put life or specifically Christmas on hold somewhat. As I’m due to start new ones at the end of the month, I have a dilemma about what to do with the old one!

⚠️ "The next foodborne illness outbreak could be much worse. "That's the concern of #FoodSafety leaders across the U.S. who are raising alarms over federal cuts they say have made it harder to detect and stop the spread of foodborne illnesses, such as the recent outbreaks of #Cyclospora, which has sickened thousands in dozens of states. And they're especially worried the next pathogen will be much more deadly." https://www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdisease/publichealth/122372

"But during President Trump's second term, the FDA has lost about 20% of its staff; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is down 25%. The CDC used to have 11 scientists tracking food parasites; now it's three." "The appalling truth about cyclospora is that humans are its lone source. It’s only ever been found in human feces. So if it’s in our food or water, 'it doesn’t take a rocket scientist or a microbiologist to overthink this,' said Dr. Mark Moorman, who recently retired as director of the Office of Food Safety at the US Food and Drug Administration. 'Humans are the source.'" https://www.cnn.com/2026/07/25/health/cyclospora-outbreak-investigation #PublicHealth #cyclospora #diarrhea #IDmastodon #epidemiology #FoodSafety #FDA #CDC
