When the United States ratified the 13th amendment in 1865, federal lawmakers very nearly outlawed slavery for good — but not entirely. Tucked within arguably the most important corner of the US constitution is a massive caveat: “neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States” In the 160-some years since that amendment, a quieter type of forced servitude has lived on in the US: prison labor. From the debt peonage of the post-Civil War reconstruction era to the privatized contracting of the 21st century, prison labor is a massive money maker, generating $11 billion worth of goods in 2022 alone. As horrifying a thought as it is, one of the companies still benefiting from the practice is in the news for another reason: spreading a gut-busting diarrhea parasite through mass-produced shredded lettuce in grocery stores and fast food outlets. It turns out that Taylor Farms, the agricultural company widely believed to be behind the cyclospora outbreakcurrently raging throughout the US, is also heavily involved in modern-day forced labor #forcedlabor #TaylorFarms

The entire Taylor Farms Cyclospora lettuce debacle with an FDA backpedal is highly suspect to me - especially when this corporation has been a huge contributor to the current admin and the backpedal occurred after the fact they had a "private meeting". It is especially true when people realize Taylor Farms private labels their lettuce for what seems like at least 1/3 of the lettuce products out there, and this affects a large number of other corporations with its enormous, and dominant, market share. You'd think instead of the FDA calling this a "false positive" , despite the huge list of epidemiological evidence in the matter, they would have actually tested the lettuce that was apart of the recall first. Yes, the lettuce they tested was a "contaminated sample collected through targeted import surveillance as part of the agency's investigation. The agency said Taylor Farms confirmed the positive sample is not part of the company's voluntary recall". A federal agency announcing a positive match to the public and then retracting it within 24 hours, despite all the evidence, ...that must be a historical rarity. https://www.wired.com/story/diarrhea-outbreak-taylor-farms-maga-donations-lobbying/ https://www.yahoo.com/news/science/articles/fda-taylor-farms-lettuce-thats-232436144.html#:~:text=The%20FDA,agency%20said,-%2E https://www.fda.gov/food/outbreaks-foodborne-illness/investigation-5-state-outbreak-cyclospora-illnesses-iceberg-lettuce-july-2026 https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/20/well/eat/cyclospora-false-positive-lettuce-taylor-farms-fda.html https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/cyclospora/after-withdrawing-false-positive-test-fda-says-taylor-farms-lettuce-still-focus #taylorfarms #recall #Cyclospora #uspol #food

RE: https://flipboard.com/@futurism/health-medicine-io5pfvrsz/-/a-Wn1WsjltQOG073wRYcONwQ%3Aa%3A1737388686-%2F0 I also don’t understand why Taylor Farms keeps getting a free pass by the media on this. They’re the same outfit linked to the e. Coli outbreak from onions provided to McDonalds, among others. Taylor Farms was founded in 1995 by Bruce Taylor, a third-generation lettuce grower in Salinas, California. It reports $7 billion in annual revenue, more than 25,000 employees and 165 million servings of produce a week. It has repeatedly been found responsible for devastating pathogen outbreaks and received nothing but slaps on the wrist. https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2026/07/18/zgne-j18.html #Cyclosporiasis #TaylorFarms

The corps have stopped the #USDA & #FDA from protecting consumers first when it comes to food safety. One of the ways they did it was by suing the agency that announced who shipped tainted food & who distributed it. The system is set up to protect the corps & not the public. We don't have the lobbying power big Ag does. This failure to NAME the stores carrying the products & report the details is dangerous to public health, Here's the #FDA report FROM #TaylorFarms

The hunt for the source of what is developing as one of the largest outbreaks of foodborne illnesses in recent years in the United States has reached a turning point. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have identified the origin of the violent outbreak of intestinal virus that is affecting thousands of people in over 30 American states: it is due to prepackaged salads produced by the Californian company Taylor Farms. The contagion has spread capillarily through the fast food chain Taco Bell, supplied by the Californian producer, and specifically because of iceberg lettuce shredded from Mexico and distributed in restaurants in five Midwestern states: Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia.
