I am not at the moment very interested in the problem of connecting arbitrary internet users to services at scale. I am interested in creating private secure domains and application services that can be extended over the internet to remote participants with technologies like #tailscale and let closed organizations perform their missions outside of surveillance or any external control.

Oddly pairing Microbe C++ with #gtk (gtk4) directly produces far better cross-platform results than either #vala #mono or C++ with #Qt and does so while producing tiny executables. Of course, the idea of doing any desktop applications while #blind is rather amusing, too.

Something like Microbe might pair very well with #LVGL too, producing an embedded ui environment potentially cleaner than #QtQuick for most use cases while having far less execution overhead.

So many privileged white suburban civil libertarians are now hiding. They were willing to argue against racism when it advance careers. Being #blind, and in any case working mostly from an #ALpineLinux terminal screen, I mostly use #vim . I might have chosen neovim but I kept hitting the strange small incompatibilities. One of them is if neovim detects a 256 color term, it uses it by default,. The problem is there is no option to disable and force #ansi color use.

I had spent years tuning an ansi color them that actually works for my eyes so I can vaguely see differences and have some idea what I am typing. The Alpine vim packages are a bit borked, though, because they don't support a proper #sql syntax module, but some shim for oracle that is incomplete. So I cannot use it to highlight sql in C++ strings like I can with Debian.

Tooling for blind use can at times be as frustrating as being blind.

#Europe has chosen human dignity over brutality

While there are entirely valid use cases for data centers, including #geospatial and #hpc and I have been involved in both when I could see, most of the SV ones are dead to me. When I turn on a light or take a call from someone down the hall, or share a private file locally, I have NO NEED or desire for an external data center to be involved.

A local network that can do smart routing and support remote endpoints, like wireguard / #tailscale helps make data center computing and server hosting obsolete and irrelevant for many applications, too, while solving many local security issues with network visibility, especially for #wifi Extending my private domain over the public internet solves these problems better.

One of the things I find no use for anymore is the 3 tier SV model for developing enterprise services. You really only need this if you are scaling to aggregative hosting and control of other people's data or your iin the fortune 50 list, but SV does want to host and control their data, too.

I believe data and compute autonomy is so essential to business and personal integrity and dignity, which is why I was so hated in SV. I also prefer practices optimized around performance, deterministic behavior, and simplicity. Simplicity even more so blind. SV has opposite and perverse incentives.

@mobidic @gleick It just means it has to be done the hard way. Each signatory to the Geneva conventions has a duty and obligation to pursue war crimes in their own national courts fory any other signatory if they are unable or unwilling in their national courts. The ICC streamlines and standardizes this, but universal jurisdiction was always an option in the original Geneva conventions, to which those countries are a signatory.

It shouldn't be rocket science, but even #NASA can't seem to get #outlook to work.

@sudorandom@infosec.exchange I simply use VIM or emacs, edit with tab, and let it fill that as 4 spaces, unless I am editing a Makefile or assembler source, then I use hard tabs, but when I was coddling my braces and yet doing staircase else in C, I was told then I was a monster then, too ;)

@bodil First you must realize Knuth could have subtitled "the art of programming" as the lazy art ;). So lazy, in fact, we create programs just to write programs for us. Now, artificial ignorance is spewing back from it's training, which is largely a similar pile of... On top of that pile, as information entropy suggests, there is even some degeneracy from that, which is why you can't have AI coprophagia. Rather than being a Yogi a little smarter than the average programmer, it is condemned to being a little dumber than the average of the training input. Simple physics.

@bkastl GitHub is maybe where you go if you want to be harassed by swarms of recruiters, but I find so many reasons not to use it, especially now. Being blind, their UI is pretty abysmal too. I am very happy with #codeberg

@HeptaSean such is the state of Artificial Ignorance. I think Natural Ignorance still is on top, though AU has actually reached the very lowest rung of human intelligence; the politician!
