Don't forget! air_conditioning=yes/no is the tag you can map now!
When you walk into a shop/cafe/restaurant do you immediately notice the cold air? You should be happy for 2 reasons! You can cool down, and now you have something to map into OSM!
I mean, #OpenStreetMap and #OpenStreetMapFoundation has problems, but c'mon, at least we're not as bad as #Wikipedia
There isn't a #MapComplete thing for “Does this place have air conditioning?”, right?
Anyone good with MC want to whisk that up for me? Summer in Europe, so this would be nice to have!
#Postpass is an #SQL server. It (#PostgreSQL) can do data processing, and convert your data, meaning your map styles are simple and easy to understand.

@habi@mastodon.social if there's 2 addresses with the same number and street, but they're 50 km away in different towns, that's probably not a mistake. There's bound to be a "1 Main Street" in town A and another in town B.

I know some people are against the check_date tag, but I think it's great! OSM will last many decades more, and it's great to have a way to record that an OSMer confirms that this thing is still there.

Is there any way (in OSM) to map the _type_ of pedestrian crossing symbol?
Some places have different styles.
e.g. Mainz has this Mainzelmännchen, Berlin, famously has different one for East & West Berlin.
How does one store that in OSM?

I'm not as anti-AI/LLM as some people. But I can't help but feel sad at how much of the “open internet” is being turned off, due to the side effect of AI/LLM (or their scrapers)....
Open Source projects often have a tag for their bug reports/issues called “good first issue”. Something new people can work on, to get used to this software project.
Looks like like AI/LLM bots are scanning for that, and sending drive-by patches “fixing” those issue. This drains maintainer's time.
Something that used to be good to help new software developers, is draining software maintainer's energy. Thanks GenAI!

Like, I don't mind seeing old photos of myself. It just looks like a weirdly different person. 😅😅 Lots of trans people post “timeline” photos ( https://www.reddit.com/r/transtimelines/ ). So old photos are, for many, OK.
But, I dunno, often people use a person's deadname as a way to say that they aren't (in my case) a woman.... I dunno, it just feels hurtful to hear

There are some trans women who always knew that they were female, and remember knowing/feeling/saying¹ this from a young age. But that wasn't my (or other's) experience/history.
But it still feels strange to think of myself as a male in the past, so i dunno.
It's really weird. I feel like I've changed nothing, but also that I have changed a lot. So ... i dunno?!
(hence why it's better to just avoid saying that)

trans people are very open with each other. What we call sharing probably counts as “oversharing” for yous 😅.
But we really don't share deadnames. I don't know the deadnames of nearly all of my trans friends. We _don't_ share those things.

² a tip for cis people: you should really really avoid using, or mentioning, a trans person's previous name (their deadname).
I can't really explain it, but I (& many other trans ppl) really really don't like hearing it, or being referred to with that name.
Someone gets married, and changes their name? Many don't have a problem seeing their maiden name. But for me, as a trans person, I really don't want you to think of me as that name.

I transitioned while on the OSMF Board. They asked how they should cover that, and let me write the entry¹

I didn't mention my dead name², or state that I was changing genders³. 😄 There were no bros demanding some historical legacy reasons “well actually”'ing

It starts off with “For human: male, female, non-binary, intersex, transgender female, transgender male, agender, etc”, this is what I said at the root the comment thread. I don't want to get involved in that sort of project.
There are loads of dinosaur transphobic comments there too.

Or a "this person's gender matches the gender they were assigned at birth=true/false"

So what you're describing ("we don't add it unless we know more") isn't how wiki data works IME. (I'm open to suggestions).

@kevin@en.osm.town Imagine Wikidata had a category of ”woman” and ”black woman”. And a person's gender had to be one of them. And the official advice was that white women should be given the gender of “woman”, and black women should get ”black woman”.

@kevin@en.osm.town I started changing a few long-dead people from gender=male to gender=cis male (which exists in wikidata). but they reverted it.
I don't do much #wikidata processing, but if you have a simple “gender=female” and trans women are supposed to go under the “gender=trans female”, then I dunno if you'd be counting a trans woman as a woman, which is problematic.
I can understand the resistance to having to think about trans issues when tracking people though the past, but c'mon.

The idea behind establishing this convention was to eliminate noise generated almost every time someone comes in and greets using some form of day-time based greeting, and then channel members on the other side of the globe start pointing out that it's different time of the day for them
Do you know about “Universal Greeting Time”?
