One company paid $500,000,000 for AI in one month

An AI consultant told Axios that one of their clients recently spent half a billion dollars in a month on Claude licenses from Anthropic. How did the company rack up such an insanely high bill? Its employees apparently had no limit on how many licenses they could use, leaving them free to splurge on as much Claude as possible. (more in video description)

The AI Great Leap Forward

In 1958, Mao ordered every village in China to produce steel. Farmers melted down their cooking pots in backyard furnaces and reported spectacular numbers. The steel was useless. The crops rotted. Thirty million people starved.

In 2026, every other company is having top down mandate on AI transformation.

Same energy.

Recently I bought this tiny e-book to my wife
Xteink X4
https://www.xteink.com/products/xteink-x4
and she is very happy with it. She can literally put it in her pocket and read anywhere (and she does).

It definitely needs this other (open source) firmware
https://github.com/crosspoint-reader/crosspoint-reader
The original one is not good.

*PROJ in the browser* Do you want to play with the (beta version of) Modernized NSRS (the new system for the USA, aka NATRF2022 and friends)? Add "nsrs_aux_db=1" to the URL, as here: https://jjimenezshaw.github.io/wasm-proj/transform.html?nsrs_aux_db=1 It will automatically add an auxiliary database from https://github.com/jjimenezshaw/NSRS-2022-PROJ (You can also do it manually) #noaa #ngs #gischat

*PROJ in the browser* I've been improving the web page https://jjimenezshaw.github.io/wasm-proj/ It has some more things, like a home page, better documentation, usage of your own database, full pipeline transformation, and a full new page to compute distortion factors and show the Tissot's indicatrix. All serverless. Updated to PROJ 9.8.1 😉 (The URL updated automatically was already there. It is very useful to share your transformation and coordinates) No ads, no cookies, no tracking.

PROJ 9.8.1 was released today April 10th 🥳
More info on https://proj.org/en/9.8/news.html

This early bug-fix release reverts to an earlier version of EPSG, to avoid some issues found in 9.8.0 for the ETRS89 datum ensemble.

https://spatialreference.org/ and
https://crs-explorer.proj.org/ are already up to date.

@atlefren@snabelen.no I finally merged wasm-proj into master. (It was not completely ready, but I wanted to do it before #fossgis2026 next week) There are a few more features, and I have more ideas for the coming months. Go to the index page at https://jjimenezshaw.github.io/wasm-proj BTW, no cookies, no ads, no trackers.

@atlefren@snabelen.no yes, you are right. I am still changing many things in the js source code (and learning). When I am done I will merge it into master branch. If you cannot wait, you can search among the branches ;) The idea is to have a simple js library and some html files that uses it. KISS.

*PROJ in the browser*

Finally, after a long time and learning a lot in the process, I am getting a webpage that uses PROJ to perform coordinate transformations (similar to cs2cs)

https://jjimenezshaw.github.io/wasm-proj/transform.html

Best features:
- fast!
- it uses grid files when needed, downloading only the needed part of them.

There's another one that replicates projinfo:
https://jjimenezshaw.github.io/wasm-proj/projinfo.html

It has its js library behind it. I'm still developing it, improving it & adding more features.

Enjoy!
