@Linux_in_a_Bit@infosec.exchange Canonical *really* needs to abandon the whole snap effort. Flatpak has won desktop containerization, Docker has long been the choice for server containerization, there is no point in a Ubuntu-only containerization solution.

@justindz@mastodon.social Well, there's the obvious difference between Cinnamon with Mint and COSMIC with Pop. In my mind, Cinnamon is similar to Windows, while COSMIC's paradigm is more GNOME-like. The update applications are very different too; PopOS likes to put all of the "system updates" into a sort of bundle, while Mint's Update Manager deals more with individual packages. Mint's tool will also update flatpaks if flatpak is installed. Of course, apt update && apt dist-upgrade work as expected if you want to use the command line. Pop has a specific download for use with Nvidia GPUs, so that *may* give you some extra help if you have one of those. Most of my systems have either AMD or Intel GPUs, and both Pop & Mint seem to work fine.

Based on Ubuntu (or Debian), but no snaps. Both work great with flatpak if you want that.

I've had fairly good luck running Steam on PopOS, but I also used AMD GPUs. YMMV.
