Two very simple steps I take when planning views of #MountFuji (or any other thing for that matter) from the air.

Step 1: I use a flight tracker like Flightradar24 to see on what side of the plane Mount Fuji will be.

Step 2: Remember — not all window seats are created equal! This is why I use the seating maps on Aerolopa which show how the seat rows align with the plane's windows.

If you're ever visiting #Berlin, don't leave without seeing this place at all. Emotionally, it's not an easy place to visit, but like the Atomic Dome in Hiroshima, I think it's one of those places you HAVE to visit if you're in Berlin, even if uncomfortable.

There was a concentration camp just 35 km from #Berlin. Tens of thousands of people died at the #Sachsenhausen camp between 1936 and 1950 at the hands of the Nazis and the Soviets.

There is a precipitable heaviness and oppressiveness to the air at the site, even after all these years. It is one of these sites that everyone should visit at least once — a reminder that "#NeverAgain" must truly mean never again.

#MountFuji looks beautiful from the ground, but with a well-planned flight and the right window seat, you can see how beautiful it looks from the air.

I used tools like Flightradar24 to make an informed guess as to my possible flight path, and seat maps like the ones on aerolopa.com to make sure my seat aligns with a window.

As a frequent traveller, I want gear that does the job, but is small.

Wanted to see how purely #PhonePhotography might work — torture test scenario shooting the #SolarEclipse in #London on 12 Aug 2026.

Surprisingly, the #Xiaomi #Leitzphone turned out okay. The Xiaomi Gallery app's editor doesn't have all the bells and whistles as Lightroom, but does the job (without subscription!) for a social media edit, in my opinion.

A juxtaposition between natural and artificial light.

It was -19°C. Ice crystals in the air reflect a car's headlights causing it to look like a pillar.

I love how the light shining over the snow makes this look like the surface of a different planet.

📍 Lake Torneträsk • Sweden.

If you'd ever wondered if it's possible to get a clean shot of the Milky Way from a plane using an actual camera — yes it is.

If you want to see a preview of the kind of planning involved, this short 20ish-second reel is for you. Watch until the end for the final image.

I was looking through my shots from the plane and found another keeper. This was shot 3 minutes later above western Azerbaijan. I used #DxOPhotoLab9 to edit this, and its denoise worked like a charm. It certainly came out better than the #Lightroom edit of the same pic. This was shot as a single frame, handheld for 2 seconds. 📍 37,009 ft over western Azerbaijan. 📷 OM System OM-1 II • OM System 8 mm f/1.8 Fisheye Pro. ⏱️ ISO 25600 • 2 seconds • f/1.8. #MilkyWay #Photography #WindowSeat

@cockneylaurie@mastodonapp.uk Haha exactly that, Laurie. I brought with me some black wraps which can velcro around my lens so I could still see the LCD without being pressed up under my "tent". I only needed to shut the window and lens off from the rest of the plane. Although the dirty window was a bit of a problem. I got around it by basically shifting the camera around avoiding the dirty bits. If you look at the first image in the chain, you can see the dirt near the wing tip.

@MichaelPorter@ottawa.place @megsouth@c.im Haha it's kind of a cheat. I just used its handheld high res mode which takes 8 shots in quick succession, pixel shifted, to create a 50 MP high res shot. But that works in principle for astro stacking too lol.

@RachelThornSub@famichiki.jp Thank you, Professor Thorn. 🫶 I'm glad you like it. I'm sure I can't be the only person to have wanted to shoot the Milky Way from a plane though. But probably not shown very often due to how many moving parts there are to trying such a shot? If you look closely at this shot, you can see some blurry bits near the wingtip due to some dirt / ice on the window. But thankfully it doesn't obscure the actual galactic core.

@MichaelPorter@ottawa.place @megsouth@c.im Thanks, although my camera did a lot of the heavy lifting. It's 16 seconds' worth of shots. The camera takes 8 shots at 2 seconds exposure in quick succession and then stacks them together. The IBIS on OM System cameras are really amazing!

@GaldeSteen@truthsocial.co.in Oh man, what a beautiful sight! It makes me really sad that so many people don't care about, or look up at wonder at the night sky nowadays. I read a statistic that suggested over 80% of the world's population now live under light polluted skies. That figure apparently rises to about 99% in Europe and North America. Do many at sea still know how to navigate by the stars with all the GPS tech nowadays?

@MichaelPorter@ottawa.place @megsouth@c.im Hahaha I've been meaning to get my hands on the original OM-1 to play with. My film SLR is a Minolta X-700. Confusingly, the digital OM camera that is most like the original OM-1 in looks and design is actually now the OM-3.
