Áróra Another night, another good forecast for aurora but not for weather. By 7pm we were parked in a safe place and armed with tripods and cameras, warm clothes, and our books to read, waiting to see what transpired. It was quiet until about 9pm when three things happened. The clouds began to break up, the aurora began to dance, and we quickly unloaded the cameras! Early November, Berufjörður in eastern Iceland. #AuroraTuesday #NorthernLights #aurora #AuroraBorealis #Iceland #Photography

Nitrogen Fringe Green is the most common colour seen during auroral displays. It's produced when charged solar particles collide with oxygen molecules at altitudes of 100 to 300 km. Sometimes the lower edge of an aurora will have a pink tinge, which is produced by ionised nitrogen at altitudes below 100 km. On this November night, we saw it during an intense KP7 geomagnetic storm. Berufjörður in eastern Iceland. #AuroraTuesday #NorthernLights #aurora #AuroraBorealis #Iceland #Photography

Last January while trying to finally get a good picture of the horsehead nebula I ran into an unexpected problem that ruined a lot of my subframes. Can't say I was really unhappy though, it's not everyday that you get Northern lights here! #astrophotography #astronomy #IC434 #aurora #NorthernLights

20240511 | The Northern Lights from Oregon Came back home from a t4t event and saw that here on fedi that there was aurora activity! Never before had seen aurora and was curious and excited (couldn't make anything out from our apartment). it was probably 2200 and i asked my then partner, wanna go see if we can see it? i think we were both kinda eepy, but we decided it was a go and so i grabbed the photo gear and we headed out. 20 or so minutes into driving down I-84 eastbound, we could see it clearly out the car windows! kept driving at least another hour to try to find a spot to capture it further out in the gorge. there were so many ppl out and by this time it was almost midnight. stopped at a little spot that actually overlooks I-84 and set my manual 9 mm f/2.8 (sold this lens a while ago) on my Fuji X-T4, got focus, and took this shot. we kept driving another hour or so east and ended up in cascade locks down by the park and got some lovely time together just enjoying the colors. headed home and i think we got home around 0300 or a smidge after iirc. possibly most fun adventure day of 2024 :neodog_floof_cute: #photography #landscapephotography #auroraborealis #northernlights #oregon #astrophotography

The Night Is Dark But Full Of Light Early November, and the weather forecast is clear skies. High KP is also expected, so we find ourselves a safe off-road spot to park, set up tripods and cameras, and wait. It isn't long before we're rewarded for our patience. From the north and east, ribbons of green stream overhead, dancing around the wheeling stars. Egilsstaðir, eastern Iceland. Two years ago tonight I was fortunate to witness one of the best displays of the Aurora Borealis that I have ever seen. A remarkable sky lit up to the naked eye and made more unique as it was covering most of the southern sky. The first shot is a stitch of around eighteen individual shots in order to fit the whole display into one frame #Aurora #NorthernLights #Aberdeenshire #Scotland

Infinite Loop Over the 12 years that we've been taking holidays in Iceland, I must have snapped thousands of aurora photos. This one is still among my favourites. November. The 94% illuminated moon was high in the south-east, and lit the mountains on the opposite side of Berufjörður. The night was clear and still. This curl of green aurora looping over the peaks and reflecting in the fjord gave me this great shot. #AuroraTuesday #NorthernLights #aurora #AuroraBorealis #Iceland #Photography
