@veronica@explains.social in the end thats what legislation and policy is for. We are entering a world where an endusers device needs to be managed like a fortress. If we had proper privacy laws and they were enforced, a lot of that self management wouldn't be needed. Having a policy that requires encryption, strong privacy laws, and require certain information kept locally by providers would help the less literate as it's managed at the service level not the end point.

@Daojoan@mastodon.social yeah gonna have to hard disagree there. It never was a thing. Its just folk are more interconnected now, so you dont have any downtime from it. All i ever experienced growing up and adulthood was that others did not have good emotional regulation.

It's getting the financial system up that would require some coordination. I'm not sure how federating works when cash is involved. You may need to have a centralised server... or a sync'd cryprographic keychain type system.

The solutions are there, such as donating directly to the artist. I think we may have a return of physical media where artists burn their own disks and sell them as a form of protest art.
When i create something, i just give it away if someone likes it, so the commercial side i am ignorant to. Im all about the process, not the outcome.

But 5 years once everyone is used to it ceos and marketing will start enshittifying. My take has been during artist fridays i buy music. Once they start clamping down, I'll delete my account. They serve me i dont serve them.

The #NDIS narritive was perpetuated by murdoch media. Then, instead of fixing the issues that were there, you punished those that needed care instead. Then on top of it, you dont take royalties from an industry that is literally ripping of an entire nation. The only social license i see has been revoked and thats between the people and the #ALP .

@sortius@infosec.exchange i 💯 blame Malcom. But because of the changes his government enacted just to oppose the ALP at the time, resulted in a more similar system to the US. Especially with some new developments with their own private infrastructure. Personally, I'd love to see an acceptance of the mess it is. Keep the nbn public owned and go back to the 90% plan.
It was the NBN that made me lose all faith in Australian politics as it showed that our government would rather be petty than foster growth.

If we had these kind of speeds, Australians could create their own startups from home and be competitive in the technology market... anyway, back to mining and terrible policy decisions affecting us for generations.

@Natasha_Jay My tinfoil hat theory is the blow back from mRNA research was a bunch of folk who make money off traditional cancer treatments, saw what could be done and wanted to pump the breaks.
When they initially started talking about this, my first thought was that this would be a game changer for cancer treatment. Then the politicians got involved....
