@jenniferplusplus@hachyderm.io I was thinking about this today. It's like they watched Star Trek or other sci-fi, saw the "black box" devices that relied on a central service to run, and said "I want some of that".
They want us all to have dumb devices we pay them for that use their services, that we pay even more for.
The saddest part is every single company seems to be onboard with this, despite them suffering greatly now because of it

@zwol@masto.hackers.town we have a few of those kei-trucks knocking about in my area. One is a landscapers truck with "cirque du soil" on the side, another a delivery truck for a non-alcoholic beer brewery, and the most often seen is a 3rd party Sodastream CO2 delivery truck

Kids and I were talking about gaming engines.
Eventually my daughter asked "Will there be a Half-Life 3".
My only response was to say "How could you ask me that question? I'm deeply offended".
Then storm off muttering things about "you bring them up right, then one day, they ask THAT question"
