I have a big problem getting #esphome to run on this CrowPanel display - https://www.elecrow.com/wiki/CrowPanel_ESP32_E-paper_2.9-inch_HMI_Display.html - which is basically a esp32-s3-devkitc1-n8r8.
The device connects to my WiFi, but the log (esphome run...) stays completely empty.
What am I missing?

Im Fediverse seit 26.04.2022 Hier her umgezogen aus dem TrötCafe. Den ersten Kaffee gibt es schon morgens im Bett. Ich koche und backe gerne und bekomme beides inzwischen auch recht gut hin. Ich habe heute endlich mein PiHole wieder aufgesetzt. Der war nun gut eine Woche weg. Und erst da habe ich so richtig gespürt, was der hier im Heimnetz leistet. Nun ist es wieder gut. Werbung ist weg.
Statt Portainer läuft hier nun der von mehreren Seiten empfohlene Dockhead. Gefällt mir sehr gut.
Ich habe dann auch mal für alle Docker Container einen Healthcheck aufgesetzt. Außer für Snowflake-Proxy. Da habe ich ihn nicht zum Laufen bekommen.

Ich habe mal wieder angefangen mich ein wenig mit #SmartHome zu beschäftigen. Ich hatte hier ja schonmal #ioBroker auf einem #RaspberryPi laufen. Bis die SD Karte geschreddert wurde. Jetzt überlege ich einen Neustart. Aber was nehme ich? Bleibe ich bei ioBroker, weil ich es schon kenne? Aber dieses Mal dann in einen Docker Container. Mein 4er Pi hat noch genug Kapazität und läuft mit externer SSD.
Alternative wäre #HomeAssistent. Ist wohl einfacher zu konfigurieren. Es gibt deutlich mehr grafische Konfigurationsoberflächen. Man landet nicht so schnell bei #Yaml wie beim ioBroker. Aber frisst auch mehr Ressourcen. Empfehlung ist hier ganz klar HAssOS (unglückliche Namensgebung) zu nutzen. Dann läuft auf dem Raspberry nix anderes außer HomeAssistent. Aber andererseits ist die Community wesentlich größer. Auch die Unterstützung von Komponenten soll besser sein. #EspHome ist, so wie ich es einschätze, auch besser integriert. Und das ist für mich interessant.

Why do so many people use the #esphome device builder in #homeassistant ???
I think it's one of the core strengths of esphome to be able to fully manage the devices as code in a git repo.. Weird stuff

A new version of the CO2-Ampel that comes with #ESPHome pre-flashed. Means it shows up in #homeassistant without much hassle. No cloud and only the best sensors available on the market... SCD41 etc.
And now also a great case and accessible button to easily re-flash without opening the case.

Just got one of my more involved Home Assistant integrations online. We added a pressure transducer to monitor the water pressure for our pressure tank (where the well pump comes in). We have an Olimex PoE ESP32 there already and I decided to custom design and fabricate a PCB (first time ever) as a hat for an ADS1115 ADC and connectors.
It works! So we can now monitor our water pressure in excruciating real time precision. Just because.

Finally finished my home energy monitor project this afternoon. This uses the infrared port of my Elster R1S hydro meter, read by a repurposed Blueline Innovations PowerCost Monitor sensor. The R1S meter outputs a 100ms wide IR pulse for every 1mWh or energy consumed. Home Assistant uses the ESPHome pulse meter platform to convert these pulses into both power (pulse rate) and energy (pulse counts) readings. The ESP32 fit nicely into a repurposed Raspberry Pi case. #homeassistant #esphome
